373-374-Advanced Calculus.
Limits, curvature, theorem of mean value for derivatives, indeterminate
forms, etc., Rieman integrals, centroids, Lesbegue integrals
(introduction), series, and partial derivatives. Prerequisite:
Mathematics 351-352. Not given in 1942-'43.
384-Teaching of High School Mathematics.
Brief review of high school mathematics with emphasis upon
methods of teaching, and a study of the place of mathematics
in the high school curriculum. Prerequisite: Mathematics 313314
and six additional hours in mathematics, and twelve hours
in education.
Engineering
Engineering Drawing 311-312 is required of pre-engineering
students. Either the mechanical drawing or the engineering drawing
is strongly recommended for those who major in mathematics
or in the natural sciences. Not both courses may be taken for credit.301-302-Mechanical Drawing.
A study of the use of the instruments, free hand lettering, and
of the problems of orthographic projections in plans, detail and
assembly working drawings, and similar problems. Class will
meet three times a week for three hours each meeting for lecture
laboratory. Instruments and equipment for the course
cost from twelve to fifteen dollars. Given in alternate years.
Not given in 1942-'43.
311-312-Engineering Drawing and Descriptive Geometry.
Lettering, standard orthographic views, auxiliary views, sectional
views, dimensioning, and geometric constructions with
the use of the instruments first half. Descriptive Geometry of
points, lines and planes, intersection and development of surfaces,
and the applications to working drawings and other related
problems. Instruments and equipment cost about fifteen
dollars. Given in 1942-'43.
317-Radio Engineering-Part I.
Review of high school algebra and introduction to trigonometry
applied to direct and alternating current theory and circuit
analysis, vacuum tube theory and elementary applications
and wire telephony and audio frequency systems. Prerequisite:
Twoyears high school mathematics and one year high school
physics.
318-Radio Engineering-Part II.
Mathematics applied to electromagnetic transmissions, radio
communication systems, transmitters, receivers using amplitude
modulation, vacuum tube applications (advanced), frequency
modulation, radio propagation and transmission lines.
Prerequisite: Radio Engineering, Part I.65
