211.-Fundamentals of Speech.
A course in which the essential principles of good speech are
applied in actual performance. Supplementary readings. Prerequisite
to all other courses in speech.
212.-Fundamentals of Speech.
Continuation of 211.
220.-Story Telling.
The theory and practice of story telling for all ages of children;
planning and conducting story hours for children. Adapted for
those interested in teaching in the grades, or doing play ground
or library work.
323.-Public Speaking.
A study of the principles of speech composition, including the
analysis of subjects, selection and arrangement of materials, the
psychology of the audience, and oral style. Practice in both
written and extemporaneous speaking.
324.-Public Speaking.
A continuation of 323, with special emphasis upon the problems
of confronting the speaker in the different forms of address.
325.-Voice and Phonetics.
A study of the formation of English speech sounds, their distribution
in connected speech, stress and intonation, and ear training.
An approach to the problem of voice improvement.
326.-Play Production (Stage Craft).
A study of the theater and elementary stage craft, including the
design and construction of scenery, stage lighting, make-up, casting,
rehearsal, and production. A course designed to assist students
in directing dramatic activities in school and communities.
328.-Oral Interpretation of Literature.
A course in interpretative reading aiming to train the student to
give intelligently and sympathetically, the meaning of various
types of literature such as the Bible, Shakespeare, and modern
poetry.
352.-Oral Interpretation of the Bible.
Application of the principles of interpretation to the reading of
the Scriptures and different types of Bible literature. Practice
work.
353.-Argumentation.
A study of the principles of logic and reasoning as applied tc
various forms of discussion. Specimens are analyzed; brief drawing
required; practice in both written and spoken argument
(Formerly 321).
