Advance Placement or Credit by Examination
Realizing that students of outstanding ability and unusual preparation
are enrolling in colleges and universities, and appreciating the
necessity of suiting instruction to the needs of such students, Abilene
Christian College makes possible either exemption from certain requirements
or advance credit by examination.
Advance Credit
A student who falls in one of the following categories may petition
for credit by examination:
1. Recent high school graduates who had college level work in
high school.
2. Mature students who after high school graduation had special
work in non-accredited institutions or experiences that may be
the equivalent of certain college courses.
Recent High School Graduates-A recent high school graduate
may petition for credit by examination if he (1) has a unit or units in
a subject, and total number of units, in excess of those required for
graduation, (2) ranks in the upper quarter of his high school graduating
class, (3) has achieved in high school a grade average of "B" or
above in the subject in which advance credit is desired, and (4) ranks
in the upper 25% of the national norm of college bound students on
the ACT examination.
Mature Students-A mature student may petition for credit by examination
in a course when he believes he has had the equivalent of
the course after high school graduation (1) in a non-accredited institution,
or (2) through appropriate experiences.
Advance Placement
To be eligible for advance placement (exemption from a course
or courses), a student must (1) rank in the upper 25% of his high
school graduating class, (2) have a grade of "B" or above in the subject
in which advance placement is requested, and (3) rank in the
upper 2$% of college bound students on the ACT examination.
Regulations
If the petition for credit or exemption by examination is approved
by the Head of the Department in which credit or exemption is desired
and by the Committee on Instruction, the student may present
himself for the examination. The following regulations govern the
administration of the examination and the amount of credit that may
be earned in this manner.
1. The examination must be prepared by a Committee of, and
administered by, the department concerned before or during the first
semester that the student is enrolled for credit in Abilene Christian
College.
2. The student must make a grade of at least "C" on the examination.3. Not more than six semester hours of advance credit may be
earnel by examination in any one field, and not more than 18 semester
