The Art Department provides an opportunity
for a student with a major interest in art to develop
his abilities in the environment of a Christian,
liberal arts institution. In such an enterprise,
every student should set his goals to include
scholarship and spiritual growth as well as
understanding and skill in his major field of art.
The Department offers programs leading to
the Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, and
Bachelor of Science in Education degrees with
concentrations possible in painting, sculpture,
pottery, graphic design (commercial art), art history,
and art education (secondary level).
The BFA (66 semester hours) is considered to
be a professional degree, and candidates are expected
to be able to show a professional level of
competence upon completion of the program.
Students expecting to be professional artists, or
artist-teachers at the college level, ordinarily
choose this degree program.
The BA in studio art (48 semester hours) is
a non-professional or pre-professional degree for
those who want to use art as an avocation or as
an enrichment of liberal arts education. It can

a solid foundation for further study on the professional
or graduate level.
The BA with a concentration in art history
(30-39 semester hours) is an interdepartmental

by 12 hours from such other areas as
