department of
biology
W. Clark Stevens
Department Head
Because of increasing demands for trained
biologists in industry, civil service, and the professions,
the Department of Biology seeks to provide
thorough preparation for students in several
areas of study.
First, it provides a broad curriculum for the
biology major in his preparation for research and
advanced training.
Second, it offers sound training for those
students interested in becoming teachers of biology.Third, it contributes to the pre-professional
background of those students planning to enter
professional schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy,
and other health related fields.
Fourth, it supplies a strong minor to those
who need such to complete their preparation in
other academic disciplines.
In addition, it makes a significant contribution
to the general cultural development of many
other students as it helps them gain a fuller understanding
of and better appreciation for the
natural world and man's place in it.
Medical Technology
Arrangements have been made with the
Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Medical
Technology in Abilene whereby students who do
a minimum of 94 semester hours of work in ACC
and complete satisfactorily 12 months of work in
the hospital's school of medical technology may
receive a BS degree in medical technology.
Course requirements for the program may be
found under Cooperative Programs in the General
Information catalog. Arrangements may be
made for completing the work in other accredited
schools of medical technology as well.D-1
