Management and Human Relations
Master of Science Degree
Graduate Advisors: Edward M. Brown, Chairman of Department of Communication
The Graduate School of Abilene Christian University offers an interdepartmental
Master of Science degree program in Management and Human Relations, involving the
departments of Business Administration, Communication, and Psychology.
The program is offered at the main campus as well as at the Dyess Air Force Base
Education center. This multidisciplinary study is designed to meet the special needs of
administrators and managers, including Air Force officers and leaders in the business
community.
Prerequisite:
A Bachelor's Degree and undergraduate courses to suit specific graduate course
prerequisites.
Degree Requirements:
The program requires 36 semester hours with a minimum of six hours from each of
the three participating departments of Business Administration, Communication, and
Psychology. For the additional 18 hours of course work, the student will be permitted
either to concentrate his studies in one area or to distribute his studies among the three
departmental areas listed above. Course selection will be influenced by the student's
academic background, the individual course prerequisites, course availability, and the
student's objective.
At least one-half the total hours required for the program must be in 600-level
courses.
Each student must take one Research Methods course (but not more than one) as
part of his degree program, and this course cannot be counted toward the six-hour
minimum requirement in each department. The Research Methods course should be
taken at the beginning of the degree program. (Research methods courses are marked
with * in course listings on following pages.)
Certain relevant studies, such as Gov. 595 and 596, Public Administration, Soc.
560, Ethics in Decision Making, and Soc. 562, Sociology of Marriage and Family, may
be included in this degree program.
A six-hour thesis, though not required, may be substituted for six of the course
hours upon approval of the graduate advisor for the program and the chairman of the
department in which the thesis would be done.
Transfer Credits:
Transfer of graduate work from another institution, including Air War College and
Air Command and Staff College, will be considered on an individual basis in keeping
with standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.85
