ACU is the place to be if you want a top-quality business education
set in a Christian environment. The College of Business Administration
views its primary mission as being the preparation of students to serve
as Christians in today's business world. The college's major emphasis
will continue to be on its undergraduate program. The goal of the
College of Business Administration, currently enrolling 1,200 students,
is to ensure that every semester the quantity and quality of classes will
increase.
The College of Business Administration has some great plans for
you, including a spacious new business building. Business administration
majors will have the opportunity to work with the most up-to-date
instructional facilities, including excellent computer equipment.
The College of Business Administration is also increasing the
number of special scholarships available to you. Plans are being made
to increase the special business scholarships to over $40,000 in four
years.
To ensure for you a quality education, the college is continually
strengthening the curriculum. A major goal is to have the College of
Business Administration accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate
Schools of Business.
Another major goal is to double the number of full-time faculty by
1988. Currently, all 18 of the full-time faculty in the College of Business
Administration have a master's degree, and 10 faculty members hold
the doctorate. All of these faculty are actively involved in teaching
undergraduate students. Furthermore, all of ACU's business instructors
are dedicated Christians who incorporate Christian beliefs and business
ethics into their courses.
An ACU business degree prepares you for a competitive job
market. Nearly 75 percent of all interviews conducted on campus by
company recruiters are with business majors. The company recruiters
often prefer ACU graduates because of their strong Christian business
ethics.
With highly qualified teachers, an outstanding curriculum, plans for
a new building, and a superior reputation, the College of Business
Administration at ACU will indeed be an exciting place for you to
prepare for a professional career in business.
Probation and Suspension Policy
The College of Business Administration's definition of good academic
standing and its policy regarding probation and/or suspension
are as follows: (These rules supersede any rules printed elsewhere for
the University.)The minimum gradepoint average requirement will be a 2.00
cumulative for all students regardless of classification; i.e., freshmen,
sophomores, juniors and seniors.
The first time a student's cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 he/she
will be scholastically deficient. If this student fails to have a 2.00
cumulative GPA in any later semester, he/she is placed on scholastic
probation. If this student's cumulative GPA falls below a 2.00 in any
other semester, he/she is placed on scholastic suspension for one
year. Also, two consecutive semesters with a current GPA below 1.00
will result in suspension. The word "semester" refers to either the Fall
or Spring semesters as well as to the Summer session which is treated
as one semester (whether a student attends one term or both terms).
Students who have a cumulative GPA below a 2.00 but who
continue to make satisfactory progress semester-by-semester toward
elimination of their gradepoint deficiency may be allowed to continue in
the program with the Dean's approval. Appeals must be made through
the Undergraduate Advising Center in Room 124 of the Administration
Building.
After one year of suspension, a student is eligible to apply for
readmission. A student seeking readmission must apply to the Admissions
Office at least 30 days before the opening of a semester or
summer term for which he/she desires to register.
If a student attends another institution while on suspension from
Abilene Christian University or any other accredited institution, those
courses taken elsewhere will not transfer to the College of Business
Administration.
Summary of Scholastic Policy:
1. Minimum GPA for all students: 2.00
2. First semester below 2.00: Scholastically deficient
3. Second semester below 2.00 (at any later time): Scholastic Probation
4. Third semester below 2.00 (at any later time): Scholastic Suspension
for one year.
5. Two consecutive semesters GPA below 1.00: Suspension
6. Eligible to apply for readmission after one year (this must be done
30 days-prior to opening of semester to attend)
7. Course work done at other universities while student is on suspension
from ACU will not transfer to the College of Business
Administration.
8. Exception: Students whose cumulative GPA is below 2.00, but
who continue to make progress toward eliminating the deficiency
may petition the Dean of the College of Business Administration
to continue in the program.
Important Suggestions in Planning
Class Schedules
In planning your classes, the guidelines listed below should be
followed. Make certain that you comply. The rules are imposed for the
student's best interest. Experience suggests that failure to comply will
often result in problems for the student.
1. Become familiar with the catalog prior to seeking counsel from an
adviser. In other words, please read the portions of the catalog
that relate to your major before meeting with your adviser.
2. Do not forego taking math in any semester until all math requirements
have been satisfied. Math is a prerequisite for Elementary
Accounting.
3. Introduction to Business, Elementary Accounting, and Principles
of Economics must be completed prior to enrolling in any junior
business course.
4. All general education requirements in Communications, Science,
English, Math, Physical Education, Social Behavioral Science,
and Government should be completed prior to or taken concurrently
with junior level business courses.
5. Data Processing should be taken as a sophomore and Statistics
should be taken prior to or at least concurrently with other junior
business courses.36
