Department of Industrial Technology
Jerry Drennan, Chairman
There are less than 30 private institutions in the United States
which provide both associate and baccalaureate degrees in the field of
industrial technology, as does ACU. The following chart presents the
several options that are available in the Industrial Technology Department:Degree:

INTERDISCIPLINARY
(Industrial Design, Industrial Safety, Vocational Missions, etc.)The Department of Industrial Technology serves five primary
purposes: to prepare teachers of industrial arts in the field of secondary
and higher education; to prepare broadly trained industrial workers in
the areas of industrial technology: to assist students in developing
interesting, healthful, and worthwhile leisure time and avocational
activities; to provide general and supplementary education for students
in other fields that will help them understand some of the common
tools, materials, processes, skills, and products of industry; and to help
students appreciate the importance of technology in an industrial
economy.
Placement possibilities for industrial technology majors are excellent.
Graduates with a major may (1) teach industrial arts in junior and
senior high schools; (2) work in industry as draftsmen, technicians,
plant managers, supervisors, or machine operators; (3) fill industrial or
teacher-related jobs for the government; or (4) go into business for
themselves in industrial-related fields. Both education and industry
increasingly need more college graduates than they can now acquire.Planning a major
Note: Some scheduling problems may arise because most industrial
technology courses are laboratory activities and require double periods.
Most advanced courses are scheduled at the same time as elementary
courses; therefore, it is important that students take courses in the
sequence indicated.
Students in the Honors Program should consult the department head
about upper-division honors courses.
Associate of Science DegreeA minimum of 64 semester hours is required for the Associate
of Science degree. The last 24 hours must be done in residence and at
least nine hours of the major field must be done in residence.
General Education Requirements
29 total hours:
Bible (6 hrs.) Textual study.
English (6 hrs.)
English 111, 112
