Student Life
Residential University
Abilene Christian University is a residential university, and all
single freshmen and sophomores, are normally required to live in
university housing. The university has on-campus accommodations
for 2,386 single students. Spaces for 1,311 women are provided in
McDonald Dormitory, McKinzie Dormitory, Sikes Dormitory, Nelson
Dormitory, Gardner Dormitory, and Sherrod Residential Park. Spaces
for 1,074 men are provided in Mabee Dormitory, Edwards Dormitory,
Morris Dormitory, and Smith-Adams Dormitory. Gardner, Sikes, Morris,
Smith-Adams, and Sherrod Residential Park are for upperclass
students. The University does not have housing for married students,
but numerous apartments are available near the campus.
Religious Activities
Many campus religious activities afford opportunities for devotion,
spiritual inspiration and growth, Christian fellowship, and outreach
to others. These activities include required daily assembly
(chapel), spontaneous worship as in the Tuesday Night Devotionals,
Mission Outreach, the annual "Lectures on Preaching" (October), and
the Bible Lectureship (February) which attracts thousands of visitors
from throughout the United States. In addition, a number of Abilene
congregations provide special programs for ACU students.
Many students participate in campaigns during Spring Break
holiday at their own expense in order to encourage Christians in
distant places. Some spend their summers in campaigns both in
domestic and in foreign fields.
Health Services
Abilene Christian University maintains a campus dispensary and
a limited infirmary. Two registered nurses are available to assist students
and make medical appointments if the seriousness of the illness
warrants a doctor's attention. When ill, report to the nurse in the
dispensary and if on campus, also sign the sick list in your dormitory.
A year-round hospitalization insurance program is available
through the Purchasing Office in the Administration Building.
