attempted (not the number of hours passed). Courses in which a
student has received grades of "P" or "NP" are not included in the
GPA.
If a student has made a low grade and repeats the course at ACU,
only the second grade will be counted in his GPA.
Final examinations are given the last four days of each semester.
Examinations are never given in advance.
Grades are mailed to whomever the student designates when he
registers.
Pass/Non-Pass Option
Undergraduate students who have sophomore standing and a 2.0
GPA may take a limited number of courses on a pass/non-pass basis
(except majors in the College of Business Administration). The purpose
of this is to allow the student to take courses which will broaden
his educational experience with less emphasis on grades and grade
points. The following rules govern the pass/non-pass.
1. A maximum of 12 hours may be taken pass/non-pass, and these
must be courses which are electives in the student's degree
plan. (The Council of Deans interprets this as outside the major
field of study).
2. The student receives credit for a "P" grade, but the "P" and "NP"
grades are not counted in computing the GPA.
3. No courses in which a student has received "F" may be
repeated on the pass/non-pass basis.
4. The teacher does not know which students are taking a course
pass/non-pass. The student registers for the course but
changes to a pass/non-pass in the Registrar's office after registration.
This must be done within the first two weeks of the
semester. The teacher will give the student a regular grade at
the end of the semester, but a grade of "D" or better will be
recorded as "P".
Academic Standing
Each student has the right to continue his education at ACU as
long as he is making satisfactory academic progress and is complying
with all other college rules. The student's cumulative grade point
average is computed at the end of each semester. In order for a student
to remain in good standing academically, he must pass 3/5 of his work
in any semester and must attain a grade point average of 1.0 if he is a
freshman, 1.5 if a sophomore, and 2.0 if a junior or senior.
If a student fails to meet these standards, he will be placed on
academic probation. If he fails to meet the standards during the
semester on probation, he will be suspended from the college. He may
be reinstated after one semester, but, if reinstated, will be placed on
probation.
If a student fails all courses in a semester, he will be suspended
from the college and must have the approval of the admissions committee
to be readmitted for the succeeding semester.

Inter-College Enrollment
A student enrolled at Abilene Christian University may also enroll
for courses at either Hardin-Simmons University or McMurry College.
Courses taken through inter-college enrollment count toward degree
requirements provided approval has been secured in advance. It is the
student's responsibility to make certain that courses taken through
this arrangement will satisfy their individual degree requirements.
Course work in a given major must be approved on our inter-college
enrollment form by the ACU department chairman and the dean of the
college. In such areas as criminal justice and ROTC, where ACU has
no department, the inter-college enrollment form should be approved
by the ACU Registrar.
Honors
Honors at graduation are based on a student's GPA. A student
whose average is 3.4 is graduated cum laude (with honor), one whose
GPA is 3.6 is graduated magna cum laude (with high honor), and one
whose GPA is 3.8 is graduated summa cum laude (with highest
honor).
If a student has 3.45 GPA on at least 12 hours during a semester,
he is included in the Dean's Honor Roll for that semester.
Credit by Examination
If your past grades or test scores indicate that you have outstanding
academic potential, it is possible to be exempt from or to receive
college credit in certain courses. A maximum of 30 semester hours
may be earned towards meeting degree requirements. All additional
hours of credit earned will be listed on the transcript.
