The following grades are used at ACU. The grade point
values shown are per semester hour of credit.
Grade Marks Grade Meaning Grade Points
A Excellent 4.0
B Good 3.0
C Average 2.0
D Inferior but passing 1.0
F Failing 0.0
I Incomplete 0.0
IP In Progress Not counted
P Passing Not counted
CR Credit Not counted
NC No-credit Not counted
WP Withdrew while passing Not counted
WF Withdrew while failing 0.0
Grades are mailed to whomever the student designates at
registration.
A grade of I must be removed by the end of the next long
term; otherwise, it becomes an F on the student's record. A
student who enrolls in a class and does not attend (or stops
attending) but does not officially withdraw is assigned a
failing grade for that class.
If an undergraduate student repeats a course at ACU, a
record of both courses will appear on the transcript but only
the second grade will be counted in his or her GPA.
Credit/No-Credit Grades
Undergraduate students who have sophomore standing and
a GPA of at least 2.0, may take a limited number of courses
on a credit/no-credit basis. The purpose of this is to allow
students to take courses which will broaden their
educational experiences, with less emphasis on grades and
grade points. The following rules apply:
1. A maximum of 12 hours may be taken credit/no-credit,
and these must be courses which are electives in the
student's degree plan, that is, electives outside the
major field of study.
2. The student receives credit for a CR grade, but the CR and
NC grades are not counted in computing the GPA.
3. No courses in which a student has received a letter grade
may be repeated on the credit/no-credit basis.
4. A student may change a course to credit/no-credit in
the Registrar's Office within the first two weeks of the
semester. The teacher will give the student a regular
grade at the end of the semester, but a grade of D or
better will be recorded as CR.
Pass/Fail Grades
Students may take University Seminar and PE activity
courses Pass/Fail, except for PE 100. Any student who
wishes to do so must complete a petition in the Registrar's
office within the first two weeks of a long term or the first
two days of a summer term. A "Pass" grade in not figured
into the GPA. A "Fail" grade counts as an "F."
Final Examinations
Final examinations are given the last four days of each longsemester and the last day of each summer term. Final
Examinations are never given in advance.Credit by Examination
If your past grades or test scores indicate outstanding
academic achievement, it is possible to be exempt from or to
receive college credit in certain courses. This provision does
not apply to the first four required General Education Bible
courses (Bible 101, 102, 201,202, 104, 105). A student
may, however, have the opportunity to take examinations in
these courses for placement purposes if the student's experience
suggests that higher level text courses would be more
appropriate. BIBL 101, 201 placement examination may be
taken at the Testing and University Assessment Office. BIBL
102, 202 are administered by the College of Biblical Studies.
No credit by examination will be awarded in a
general subject area in which a student has passed
or failed a course.
The College of Biblical Studies awards up to 58 hours of
college credit for work done at an approved school of
preaching or Bible training school. The school must be
approved by the dean of the College of Biblical Studies and
the College of Biblical Studies Academic Council. The
student will be placed on probation for one semester and
must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 during the probationary
semester. Credit is awarded only after the conditions of
the probation have been met. A brochure describing this
program is available from the College of Biblical Studies.
A maximum of 30 semester hours earned by examination
may be counted towards a degree. All hours of credit
earned, however, will be listed on your transcript. No
tuition is charged for credit by examination, but a recording
fee of $20 per course is charged. Unsuccessful attempts to
earn credit by examination are not shown on transcripts.

Graduation with Honors
Honors at graduation are based on a student's GPA for
courses taken at ACU. A student whose average is at least
3.4 is graduated cum laude (with honor), one whose GPA
is at least 3.6 is graduated magna cum laude (with high
honor), and one whose GPA is at least 3.8 is graduated
summa cum laude (with highest honor). A student must
complete at least 50 percent of all course work at ACU to
graduate with honor.
If a student has a current GPA of at least 3.45 on at least 12
hours during a semester, he is included in the Dean's
Honor Roll for that semester.
The Honors Program offers enriched study to qualified
undergraduates in any major. The four-year track (University
Honors) includes 30 semester hours. The two-year
track (Departmental Honors) includes 12 hours. Ordinarily,
no extra charges are required. See the Honors Programsection of this catalog for information on admission, special
courses, and social events.
