HEFS 516 Tailoring (2-4-3), fall, even-numbered years. Application of
custom and simplified tailoring techniques in the construction of tailored
garments. Course fee: $25. Prerequisites: junior standing; HEFS 315 or
consent of instructor.
HEFS 525 Clinical Dietetics I (3-0-3), fall, odd-numbered years. A
study of the physiology of nutrition in disease and the nutritional
therapy of patients in a clinical setting. The relationship between various
western disease states and common diet therapy applied will be
reviewed. Prerequisites: HEFS 324; CHEM 243; and BIOL 292 or
consent of instructor.
HEFS 526 Food Science (2-4-3), fall, even-numbered years. Scientific
principles underlying food preparation and processing will be explored.
Principles of experimental methodology as applied to food science. Food
and drug regulations, food additives, preservatives, and new products
will be discussed. Course fee: $25.
HEFS 527 Food Systems Organization and Administration (3-0-3),
fall, even-numbered years. Organization and administration of food
service systems, personnel management, cst control, food purchasing,
and facility and equipment planning. Fundamentals of quality assurance,
laws, regulations, and standards affecting food service will be discussed.
Required minimum of 40 hours experience in food service.
HEFS 531 Consumer Education (3-0-3), fall, odd-numbered years. A
study of consumer roles, rights, responsibilities, and methods of
protection utilizing information sources, decision-making skills,
problem-solving techniques as they relate to the consumer, the producer,
and the government in the delivery of goods and services to the
consumer.HEFS 532 Family Economics (3-0-3), spring, even-numbered years.
Principles of finance and utilization of time and energy resources for the
family. Includes spending plans, credit, savings, insurance, housing,
taxes and investments.
HEFS 551 Guidance in Early Childhood (2-2-3), fall, spring.
Fundamental principles underlying behavior and methods of working
with young children. Minimum of 30 hours laboratory participation
required. Course fee: $25.
HEFS 552 Parenting and Family Skills (3-0-3), spring. Principles of
effective parenting including interpersonal skills, communication, coping
strategies relative to various patterns of cultural and family life style,
roles, responsibilities, and support systems of the family and society;
and parent/child interactions through a life-span approach.
HEFS 553 The Family and the Community (3-0-3), fall.
Consideration of institutions and resources in the community as they
affect the well-being of children and families. Experience and
information needed to work effectively with these institutions and
resources. Prerequisites: At least 3 semester hours in courses related to
the family or consent of instructor.
HEFS 554 Aging and the Family (3-0-3), spring, even-numbered
years. Factors of aging as related to interpersonal relationships,
nutrition, and near environmental needs which will enable the elderly to
maintain personal independence and optimal quality of life. Five hours
of field experience required in nutrition module.
HEFS 590 Family Relations (3-0-3). Principles involved in
establishing and maintaining harmonious family relationships. (Same as
BIBM 690
HEFS 600 Guided Study.
HEFS 606 Field Practicum. Supervised experiences in a program
involving children, youth, adults or families. Minimum of 300 clock
hours work experience in the field required. Written report and oral
examination required for credit to be granted. Prerequisites: Successful
completion of all core requirements.
HEFS 640 Special Topics. A variable topic course in which the
professor focuses attention on a particular topic or area of interest.
Course may be repeated (in a different topic area) upon approval of
adviser.
HEFS 699 Thesis for the Master's degree (0-0-6).
Industrial Technology
INDT 532 Electricity and Magnetism (3-0-3). Electrostatics,
magnetostatics, circuit theory, Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic and
magneto-static field theory, dielectrics, displacement current, current
density, Poynting vector, scalar, and vector potentials. Prerequisites:
PHYS 122, 123 and MATH 461.
INDT 567 General Graphic Arts (3-3-3), fall, spring. In-depth
introduction to the basic principles of photography with emphasis upon
shooting assignments, processing film, and making quality prints.
Students should own a 35mm camera. Course fee: $25.
INDT 574 Industrial Supervision (3-0-3), fall of odd years. Problems
and techniques in planning and managing the industrial environment.
Prerequisite: Nine hours of INDT.
INDT 580 Manufacturing Technology (2-4-3), spring. Production
methods of construction, manufacturing, and finishing materials and
processes. Course fee: $35. Prerequisites: INDT 230 or 231 and 3 hours
of drafting.
INDT 582 Industrial Management (2-2-3), spring. Man and his
changing environment as it relates to technology. Research in
experimentation with industrial materials, processes, management, and
techniques. Course fee: $35. Prerequisite: Six hours of Industrial
