W A Roberts Rites
To Be Held Here
Sunday Afternoon
Funeral services for W A
Bill Roberts 67 longtime state
highway employee and a resi-
dent of Canadian since 1927
will be held at the First Baptist
church here this Sunday after-
noon at three oclock
The Rev Harvey K Parker
pastor of the First Presbyterian
church will officiate assisted by
the Rev Taft Holloway pastor
of the Baptist church
Burial will be made In the
local cemetery under the direc-
tion of the Carmachael funeral
home of Pampa
Mr Roberts died of gunshot
wounds In Santa Monica Calif
Wednesday afternoon about two
hours after a shooting in which
his second wife was critically
Injured A coroners Jury return-
ed a verdict of suicide
Mr and Mrs Roberts made
their home here until about a
year ago when they moved to
California Mr Roberts had
spent the past few months here-
with Mr and Mrs Claude Jones
and other relatives and had
left Canadian to return to the
coast only Wednesday of last
week
Mrs Roberts was employed as-
a waitress In local cafes for a
number of years and at one-
time operated the Cactus cafe
on the highway
William Allen Roberts was
born near Groesbeck Tex on
April 16 1884 He went to Man
gum Okla at the age of nine-
teen and on November 6 1904
was united in marriage with
Miss Llllle Dale Long now
living in Perryton
To this union five children
were born four of whom sur-
vive Mrs Claude Jones and
Mrs Hugh Parsell of Canadian
Mrs Matt Day of Miami and
William R L Roberts of Sham-
rock One daughter Charlotte
passed away In 1936
Mr Roberts Joined the Bap
1st church at Russell Okla at
the age of twentyseven years
He became very ill while help-
ing to keep the highways open
during the big cold spell here
two years ago and for two or
three weeks It was not believed
that he would live
Mrs Lula Moyer renewed her
subscription to The News this
week and sent her best regards
to all her friends here Those
