HUNGERFORD, TEXAS
Wharton, Texas, January 4.—J.
R. Ray, father of J. E. Ray of this
place was murdered near Hunger-
ford Saturday night in his store and
waB not found until Sunday noon.
The supposition is he was killed by
burglars as the store had been rob-
bed. Officers are making all inves-
tigations.
A negro came to town Sunday at
noon and reported that Mr. Ray had
not been seen. The doors of his
store were standing wide open and
investigation revealed the tragedy.

Thanks to the advice of financiers
who for obvious reasons he admitted
to his friendship, the kaiser's private
fortune 1ms increased to such an ex-
tent of late years that it was esti-
mated a short time ago by the emi-
nent German authority. Rudolph
Martin, that, he is easily the richest
man in Germany, having an annual
income of 5 million dollar' derived
from possessions valued at approxi-
mately 100 million dollars.
\ptirt rrom the kaiser's fortune,
his son, the crown prince, has u sep-
arate Income of 1-4 million dollars,
drawn from property valued at near-
ly f> million dollar*, while the kai-
ser's brother. Prince Henry, enjoys
some $150,000 a year on account of
an estate worth 1-2 million dollars.
Altogether the principal members of
the Hohenzollern family own prop-
erty valued at approximately I2R
I million dollars.
Diamond -Mines and I trow one*.
The kaiser's fortune has been
mainly built up by investments in
many businesses. He hits some very
large holdings in the big German
steamship lines, is extensively inter-
ested in the diamond mine enter-
prises of German Well Africa, owns
forests and lands to the value of :t
1-2 million dollars*, carries on a large
lumber business and lms a horse
breeding establishment in Western
Prussia which brings him In a hand-
some revenue. Furthermore, he has
great financial interests in it munici-
pal lager beer brewery at Hanover,
and founded an extensive pottery
factory on his private estates at < a

Altogether the kaiser owns about
forty castles and country houses, val-
ued at 10 million dollars, and vari-
ous properties in Berlin, approxl-
