Georgetown, Tex., Aug. 11.
A little 4-year-old son of Mrs.
Woods, living in Northtown, fell
from a wagon and sustained in-
juries from whioh it died in a f ow
minutes. Physicians pronounced
its neck broken,
Thecontraot to build a now-two-story
brick sohool house has
been awarded to J, R, Hartgraves
. of Caldwell for 311,700, ,and in-
cludes a200barrell briok cistern.
The building is to bo completed

Liberty Hill, Tex., Aug. 10.
The first bale of cotton for this
season was brought in by John
Allman yesterday evening. A
premium of S23 was given him
by the business men of the
town in addition to the 10 cents
per pound the cotton brought.
The black land soil of grand
old Williamson county is worth
good money. Yesterday Ben
Thonig of Robbins' pasture
bought of Lorenz Reiger 72 acres
of laud, near the former's gin,
for a consideration or iM.zlU, or

with the 'Seoretary of State at
Austin last Friday. The Jack-8on-Burt
Lumber Company of
Rogers, Bell county; capital
stock, $10,000. Incorporators :

The 4-months-old infant of Mr.
and Mrs. D. W. Joinor of Mariet-
to, I. T., died at the rosidenoe of
D. E. Joiner Tuesday, and was
buried in the North B'elton ceme-
tery Wednesday. The bereaved
parents and relatives have the

H W. Singletary & Co. of San
Antonio have purchased the com-
mission and brokerage business
of Sanger & Ettelson at Taylor,
Austin and San Antonio, C. A.
Cline will oontinue to have oharge
of the management of the Taylor
offico, while Jim Young, formerly
connected with J. C. Murphy &
Co., cotton brokers, will have
charge of the Austin offioe.
Up to date there has been ship-
ped 161 cars of melons from El-
" gin. This includes 23 from Ram-
soy and a few from the various
switches near Elgin, all of whioh,
however, hayo been billed from
Elgin. Last year the' total ship-
ment reaohod 163 oars. There
will be a few more cars tc go out
which will olose the . season.

Wo hayo heard of tradee and
swaps, but we heard of one this
week that takes the cow. Mrs.
H, Andrews, who live near hero,
traded throe Bronze turkoyo to a
gentleman liv'ng in Manor, for a
Jersey cow, tho man paying the
freight on both shipments. Old
Boll county is great in her pro-
ductiveness, so it is notsuprising
that sho raises turkeys that are
equal in valuo to a Jersey cow.
Hurrah for Bell county ! Demo-
crat. Since prohibition was votod
out of Bell county last March
seventy-one liquor licenses have
boen issued to varions parties in
the county. Of this number 37
are looated in Temple, 11 at Bel-
ton, 7 at Rogers, 4 at Holland,
7 at Bartlett, 2 at Ookor, 1 at
Heidenheimor and 1 each at Cy-
olono and Flagpole. Tho licen-
ses issued at Bartlett include Wil-
liamson county as well, the coun-
ty lino of Bell and Williamson
dividing tho town. Of tho total
number of licenses issued, only
forty-two are for saloons, twenty-
five are for beer-sellers only and
five are wholesale licenses.
Land Sold.
J. J, Stein of Holland, Texas
has bought an interest in the
West Texas Development Co. of
Haskell on the ist of August and
since has sold 48,000 worth of
Haskell county land to the follow-
ing pdrties: E. A. Hutchens, B.
Hutchens, W. A. Eastland, M. M.
Roberts, C. C. Ware, E. Sell, S.
W. Mixom and H. Stoebuer.
Mr. Stein will move to Haskell
abeut ist of September.

various labor unions and fartcrnal
boeies of Temple and Bell county
including the Farmers Union, h ve
agreed to combine in giving a
a huge Labor Day picnic at Mid-
way Park on the traction line on
Labor Day, September 3. This
will be the first official recognition
of the holiday ever made in this
section.

Parrill Watson returned this
week from Corpus Christi where
they had been attending the
League enoamp'ment,
Mr. K. N. Matthews of Salado
and Miss Annie Brown of this
place were happily united in mar
riage at the bride's homo last
Thursday evoning. Mr. Mat
thews is a prominent business
of Salado and is highly respected
by all ' who know him. Miss
Brown is one of Corn Hill's best
girls and has a host of friends
here. Both aro very popular
among a large circle of admiring
friends and all wish them a life
full of success and happiness.
They left for San Antonio on their
bridal tour the following day.
They will be at home in Salado
after the 13th,
