DEFENSIVE BACKEagles Massacre Indians, 33-7, for Loop Crown
The Eagles captured their second straight
undisputed Gulf Coast crown at Wichita Falls
Thanksgiving Day with a last quarter surge that
crushed Midwestern, 33-7, for the Eagles fifth
straight triumph in the season finale.
The victory gave the Flock a 7-3 record
for the season and enabled the school to retain
possession of the Theron J. Fouts trophy which
is awarded each year to the winner of the NT-
Midwestern rivalry.
As in four other games, the Eagles waited
until the second half to show their power and
then massacred the Indians in three fourth per-
iod touchdowns after holding a narrow 12-7
edge at both halftime and the three-quarter
mark.Midwestern struck suddenly in the first
period when Halfback Murphy Webster dashed
77 yards for a 7-0 lead. The Eagles roared back
in the second stanza with Halfback Ralph Rey-
nolds scoring twice.
Reynolds knotted the tilt with a 10-yard
run to cap an 80-yard drive. Safety Don Baker
intercepted a stray Indian aerial on the 48 min-
utes later and Quarterback Richard Harvey
tossed 11 yards to Reynolds for the counter.
The third period was scoreless but Half-
back Tommy Gray ignited the winners in the
fourth with touchdown sprints of 8 and 10
yards. The fifth TD came on a pass intercep-
tion by Bill Rogers who charged 25 yards for
the score.Tommy Gray is stopped after short gain enroute to tying touchdown in Thanksgiving Day engagement
at Wichita Falls.
