possibly can to interpret, to inform and to present the HerisFair
in its many facets, in its many stages of development, and sometimes,
its problems.
And even while this underwriting was proceeding and the news disseminated,
a site selection committee under the chairmanship of Jim Gaines began
its study and came up with its recommendation. Since this site selec-
tion has been mae and has been firmly established the HemisFair
Executive Coumittee and the architects have established close liaison
with the City, the Urban Aenewal Agency, the Housing Authority and
other bodies that are involved in helping procure and develop the site.
A real problem was faced because of the re-location element in the site
designated by the City as an Urban deiewal site and a basic and genuine
compromise was effected between the interested parties. The Home
Builders, the Heal Estate Board, the San Antonio Housing Authority, the
Urban Renewal Agency and the City Council have all agreed on a path of
action which means that development can rapidly proceed, and which again
underscored the great community cohesivenes behind the Hemisair.
The architects have begun design and concept work on the site and in a
few aoents we shall see what has been done to date. I feel that we
have some of the best talent in this part of the country working on the
design concept and I feel that we shall be left with a challenging and
exciting image of what our Fair should be in terms of basic concept.HemisFAIR - The Fair of the Americas
