Pursuant to call of the immigration
and passenger departments of the I
G N railroad company quite a num-
ber of real estate agents from along
the line of the I G N met in Pal-
estine at the city hall this morning to
perfect an organization
General Passenger Agent D J Prico
briefly stated tho object of the meet-
ing and Mr J F Weeks of Palestine
was called to the chair and Mr H L
Wright of this city was made tempo
rary secretary
Mr R R Claridgo of the I G N
immigration department made a good
practical talk on the advantages and
necessity of organization and his talk
covered many practical points
Mr Peddie of St Louis real estate
agent was present and spoke of the
difficulties in the way of this section
in the matter of attracting farmers
from the north and east Said he had
been here some days and had seen
farm and virgin lands of the county
He said wo had good soils and com-
bined with a delightful climato could
grow to perfection almost anything
but ha said he noticed a general ap-
pearance of slovenness with our
farmers such a thing as fall plowing
was not known The fields grew up
in rank weeds and grass the refuge of
destructive bugs and insects Said
they should use a log drag crush down
weeds cotton and corn stalks burn
them and plow under the soil Fields
rank in weeds made bad impression
on those he wished to impress with
the lands and country Ho recdm
mended honesty and candid dealings
with those who buy Imperfect titles
