Claims Error In Returns
New York Nov 7 At the head-
quarters of the independence league
tonight the following statement was
issued
Reports from up state indicate not
only Mr Hearst cut down the Repub-
lican vote materially but that the in-
dependence league vote for Hearst
was not counted In many counties
These votes will have to be added
to the announced results of Mr
Hearst in order to give the correct
Hearst figures in the state
Last night Chairman Cbanler
stated that his brother Albert who
was running for sheriff In Dutchess
county bad threatened to bring man-
damus proceedings against several
election boards before they had con-
sented to count the independence
league vote for Mr Hearst
Today other reports were received
indicating that the independence
league votes for Mr Hearst were not
counted In Erie and Allegheny coun-
ties Reports comeIn also showing
that in Clinton Cattaragus Herki
mer Wayne Albany Onondega and
Washington counties there was a
failure of the election boards to
count the > oto for Mr Hearst which

There Is no doubt that the votes rf p
res nted by this falling oft were the
votes cast for Mr Hearst and his as-
sociates under the emblem In 190
the total vote cast for governor was
1023950 This year with sixtythree
election districts missing only 1
373450 votes were accounted for al-
though the reglbtratlon this ycat was
unusually heavy and the weather con-
ditions and the interest taken in the
campaign tended to bring out a full
vote These matters are being fully

SACK COAT NEXT YEAR WILL BE
CUT MUCH SHORTER THAN
IS STYLE AT PRESENT
Special to the Herald
New York Nov 8 Clothing manu
facturers are Intent upon devoting
some specialties for the spring season
in their suit lines It Is thought that
tho sack coat will bo modified by be-
ing cut much shorter than was the
style last year and that in place of
making the three button suit the pop-
ular number in their ranges the cloth-
iers will force the two button coat to
the front In box coats the longer
lapel is to be revised and especially
on high grade worsted and woolen
suits care of every detail in construc-
tion is to be exercised The clothiers
to the trade and the manufacturing
clothier who sells to the retailer but
docs not advertise to the consumer
have both to meet the sharp compe
tition of the latter class of manufac-
turers During the last year or so
they have popularized certain styles
which they originatedand controlled
and it Interfered seriously with the
movement of the general lines of
goods in the retailers hands It Is
the effort of the general clothing man-
ufacturer this year for spring and
summer goods to make their lines as
fashionable in cut and finish as the
best products of the advertising cloth-
iers
