MUENSTER — Blake
Haubold, a Muenster High
School Senior, has won an
all-expense paid week long
trip to Washington, DC, by
entering the Cooke County
Electric Cooperative’s
Government-in-Act ion
Youth Tour Contest.
Blake is the son of Karl
and Charla Haubold of
Muenster. He will go to
Washington on June 12-20,
2014 with approximately
100 Youth Tour winners
from other Texas
Cooperatives. He will have
the opportunity to visit his-
toric monuments and muse-
ums, meet with U.S.
Representatives and
Senators and visit many
other sites around
Washington, D.C. Blake will
join hundreds of young peo-
ple from across the country
to meet and mingle with stu-
dents from many states on
Rural Electric Day.
This is the 24th year
Cooke County Electric
Cooperative Association has
sponsored the Youth Tour
Contest. This contest is open
to all juniors and seniors
from local area schools that
live in homes served by
Cooke County Electric
Cooperative Association.
Tara Gunnels, a junior at
Muenster High School was
the runner-up of the contest.
She is the daughter of Laura
Gunnels of Muenster. Other
finalists were James
Dangelmayr, son of James
and Cathy Dangelmayr of
Muenster; Georgia
Saavedra, daughter of
Kenneth and Melitta Taylor
of Muenster; Makayla
Moster, daughter of Valissa
Rhoades of Gainesville;
Biridiana Botello, daughter
of Isaac and Lisa Botello of
Gainesville.
Special event April 26th — a lunch with history
Speakers bring Texas alive
with ‘Barbs. Bullets & Blood
“Barbs, Bullets & Blood”
explores the wire that revo-
lutionized Texas and that
story comes to life on April
26 through a program hosted
by Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum
. The story of barbed-wire in
Texas is a tale of innovation
and imagination, entrepre-
neurship and salesmanship,
legislation and lawlessness -
liberally peppered with acts
of raw intimidation and
episodes of bloodshed. Four
prominent storytellers and
authors will speak at a pro-
gram from 10:30 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. April 26 at Daddy
Sam’s, 314 Clay, in down-
town Nocona.
This program is $20 and
includes lunch, ft is $15 for
museum members. Call 825-
5330 to make reservations.
Featured speakers will
include the following:
Clifford R. Caldwell,
author of “John Simpson
Chisum: The Cattle King of
the Pecos Revisited,” “Dead
Right” and “The Lincoln
County War. He will explore
the origins and operation of
the Texas cattle industry in
the open range days.
Harold D. Jobes, Texas
Hill Country rancher and
retired state government
executive, is a member of
many Texas historical asso-
ciations. He will discuss the
invention of barbed-wire, its
manufacture and distribution
in Texas . His upcoming
book examines the fence cut-
ting wars of Texas .
Bob Alexander, retires
special agent with the U.S.
Treasury Department, will
relate accounts of the blood
letting and pleas for inter-
vention by the Texas
Rangers. This award-win-
ning author’s books include:

Ranger Deaths Along the
Texas/Mexican border,”

pursued the grants designed
to help rebuild a portion of
the county-maintained roads
which have been damaged
by the heavy truck traffic
associated with the explo-
ration and development of
oil and gas reserves.
The county’s court road
and bridge commissioners
documented more than $6
million in damages
Once all of the documents
are signed and delivered,
then the precincts can begin
making the repairs - either
by using existing personnel
or contracting for part or all
of the work.
