1 AN ACT
2 relating to the election of certain county bail bond board members.
3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
4 SECTION 1. Section 1704.0535, Occupations Code, is amended
5 to read as follows:
6 Sec. 1704.0535. ELECTION OF CERTAIN BAIL BOND [S4RE-TY]
7 BOARD MEMBERS [M-MBER]. (a) The board shall annually conduct a
8 secret ballot election to elect the members [mmebe-e*] of the board
9 who serve [ee-ee-s] as the representative of licensed bail bond
10 sureties and the representative of the criminal defense attorneys
11 by electing:
12 (1) a licensed bail bond surety or agent for a
13 corporate surety board member; and
14 (2) a criminal defense attorney who is practicing in
s
15 the county.
16 (b) Each individual licensed in the county as a bail bond
17 surety or agent for a corporate surety is entitled to cast one vote
18 for each license held to elect the board member who is a surety or
19 agent for a corporate surety.
20 (c) Each attorney who has a principal place of business
21 located in the county and who is not legally prohibited from
22 representing criminal defendants in the county is entitled to cast
23 one vote to elect the board member who is a criminal defense24 attorney.
