accredited courses which can be
on a self-paced distance learning
courses through the Internet.
The maritime training courses
are VA approved and paid for by

As a reminder, the
Vietnam Wall is coming
to Refugio on Nov. 4, 5,
and 6. The wall will arrive
at the Refugio County
Community Center on
Nov. 3.
The Vietnam Wall will
be escorted to Refugio by
the Patriot Guard Riders.
Having participated in many
escorts in the past, the Guard pro-
vides an impressive sight.
Volunteers are needed to provide
security for The Wall while it’s at
the Community Center. Currently
we are looking for two-hour secu-
rity shifts around the clock.
Veterans or non-veteran are
needed. To volunteer or for more

DeLaGarza
REFUGIO - Raymond
DeLaGarza, 79, of Refugio
died Monday, Oct. 3,2011.
He retired from Lonestar
Gas and was a member
of St. James Catholic
Church.
DeLaGarza was born
Aug.7, 1932, in Goliad,
to Primitivo and Apolonia
Guzman DeLaGarza.
He is preceded in death
by his parents, six sisters,
Elogia Yanez, Tomasa
Cordova, Leonor Flores,
Anita Gonzales, Juanita
Antu, and Maria Muniz;
and two brothers, Elias
Garza and Daniel Garza.
Survivor’s include
his wife, Angelita Pena
DeLaGara of Refugio; two
sons, Hector DeLaGarza
and wife Ruby of Refugio
and Oscar DelaGarza
of Corpus Christi; three
sisters, Adela Farias of
Tivoli, Lucia Jiminez
of Victoria and Lydia
Hernandez of Houston;
one brother, Primitivo
Garza of Houston; one
grandchild; and one great-
grandchild.
A rosary will be recited
Friday, Oct.7 at 7 p.m.
at Moore Funeral Home
Chapel.
Funeral Mass will
be celebrated at St.
James Catholic Church,
Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10
a.m. Burial will be in Mt.
Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Jackson
MOORE - Fred Warner
Jackson Sr., 95, of Moore,
and a longtime resident
of Refugio, died Saturday,
Oct. 1 in Moore.
Jackson was an offi-
cer of the First National
Bank of Refugio for
many years and a long-
time member of the First
United Methodist Church
in Refugio.
He is preceded in
death by his wife, Norma
Swenson Jackson, and
daughter, Catherine Ann
Jackson.
Survivors include three
daughters and their hus-
bands, Nancy and Wayne
Witzsche of Austin, Janet
and Bill Swann of Ruidoso,
N.M., Connie and Kevin
Ryman of Manusses,
Va.; three sons, Fred W.
Jackson Jr. and his wife,
Debbie, of Salida, Colo.,
Jim Jackson and his wife,
Raye-Linn of Moore and
Paul Jackson of Moore; six
grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at
Moore Funeral Home in
Refugio from 6 to 8 p.m.,

WOODSBORO - Lois
Marie Wiginton, 72, died
Wednesday, Sept. 28. She
was a homemaker and a
member of Faith United
Church, Lions Club and
Rotary Club.
She was born in
Wakefield, Kan. on Dec.
24, 1938, to Ernest C. and
Elsie Erickson Seitz.
She is preceded in death
by her husband, Virgil
Lee Wiginton.
Survivors include her
daughter Sharon and her
husband Allan Shannon;
three sons and their wives,
Johnny and Marsha
Wiginton, Ernie and Janie
Wiginton and Sheldon
and Sylvia Wiginton, all
of Woodsboro; one broth-
er, Duane and his wife,
JoEllen Seitz of Indiana;
12 grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held
Sunday, Oct. 3, from 6-8
p.m. at Moore Funeral
Home Chapel.
Funeral services were
conducted Monday, Oct.
3, at 10 a.m.
Burial was in LaRosa
Cemetery in Woodsboro.

Blue ribbon recipe good
for local county fair
This recipe won a blue
ribbon at Santa Barbara
County Fair in California.
It was baked by a young
girl named Terri Kelley.
Some of you 4-H mem-
bers in Refugio County
might want to try this for
the local county fair. It is
tasty.
Dining

Strawberry Pecan Bread
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1-1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. each baking soda and
salt
4 eggs beaten
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
crushed
2 tablespoons strawberry gela-
tin powder (Jello)
1/3 cup strawberry jam
2 cups chopped pecans
In large bowl combine first
4 ingredients. In another bowl
combine next 5 ingredients.
Mix well and stir in dry ingredi-
ents just until moistened. Fold
in pecans.
Pour into two greased
8”x4”x2” loaf pans. Bake at
350° for 55 to 65 minutes or
until a toothpick comes out
clean. (Cover loosely with foil if
top browns too quickly).
Cool in pan 10 minutes
before removing to wire racks.
