been invited by officers and di
rectors of the Bartlett Commun
Fair Association to make the
opening address at the Fair on
October 14. Other state officials
including Senator J. Manley
Head -will also be invited to speak
it was announced.
Tentative plans include a par-
ade on the morning of October
l4 and the Governor's address
on the high school athletic field.
The high school gymnasium will
be used as an exhibit hall

CELEBRATE GOLDEN
WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Hamblin
and children spent last week-end
in San Antonio attending the
Golden Wedding Anniversary 01
Mr. Hamblin's parents Mr. and
Mrs. J. G. Hamblin of 225 Per-
eida street. Their nine children
and twelve grandchildren were
there during the week-end. Mr.
and Mrs. Hamblin' were married
in Pennsylvania July 2 1887 and
came to Texas about 28 years
ago.

Drowns At Lake Dallas

sister of the late Mrs. S. W. Mc-
Ginnis-was drowned Monday af
ternoon at Lake Dallas. when she
strayed away from a swimming
party at Gamp Rags on the west
side of the lake.
""RSsMcCurley's body-was' re
covered an' hour after she was
missed by members of the party
about 5 p. m. and after nearly
an hour's effort failed to revive
her it was taken to Denton.
Members of the party said she
was a poor swimmer and had
evidently gone into deep water.
She was the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. William McCurley
farmer of the lake sector and a
student of Lake Dallas Hyjh
School. Surviving in addition to
her parents are a brother and
two half brothers.

held its regular monthly meet-
ing Sunday afternoon in; the
church parlors.
Misses Gertrude and Ella Bey-
er presented an interesting topic
and discussion. Oscar Lindeman
rendered a splendid saxophone
solo accompanied at the paino
by Mrs. T. R. Streng. Miss La-
Verne Spiegelhauer gave a read
ing entitled "Your Flag and My
Flag." Misses Dorothy Voigt and
Alice GeBert joined the league

Fort Worth July 9 Dr. Hugh
H. Bennett Chief of the Soil
Conservation Service will spend
several days in Texas visiting
Soil Conservation Service Ser-
vice projects and camps . and
speaking on the program on the
Service in the State according
to advices received here today by
Louis P. Merrill regional con-
servator. Dr. Bennett made his first
stop in the state at Nacogdoches
where he was the principal
speaker at the East Texas Soil
Control Conference on July 8.
From Nacogdoches he came to
Ft. Worth where he will speak
before the local Rotary "Club at
noon on July 9. On the same day
he will go to Dublin to address
the District Future Farmers' of
America club meeting " at 4
o'clock. Returning from Dublin
Dr. Bennett will speak to the per-
sonnel of the Region 4 office
at Ft. Worth on the morning of
July 10 and make an inspection
tour ov.er the Garland project
during the afternoon.
The tentative itinery worked
out for the Texas trip calls for a
visit to the Frontier Fiesta at
Ft. Worth and the Pan-American
Exposition at Dallas since
Dr. Bennett has expressed a de-
sire to visit both of these amu-
sement centers during his trip
into Texas.
Dr. Bennett was met at Ft.
Smith Arkansas by Louis P.
Merrill regionl conservator on
the morning of June 80 for a
visit to projects and soil conser-
vation camps in Arkansas and
Louisiana beftjre coming to
Texas.

Ways of improving the qual-
ity of Texas Cotton will be pre-
sented at county-wide meetings
of farmers and business men at
Georgetown and Belton Friday.
Williamson County farmers will
meet at Georgetown Friday (to-
day) at 2 p. m. and Bell County
farmers at Belton at 9 a. m.

ed: "Cotton and the price of cot-
ton mean more to Williamson
County than any other one things
There are a few cold fact! star-
ing us in the face and we ar&
forced to look these facts over.
"Many "spinners in placing
their orders' for cotton specify
that no cotton from Texas and
Oklahoma be included in- the
sale. The Extension Service has
the responsibility of doing ov-'
erything possible to correct this
situation which so vitally con-
cerns the welfare of Texas and!
especially of Williamson Coun-
ty. "Exports of cotton are still on
the downward grade and- the
only way to stop this downward
movement .is?to improve quality

two hours long. and we will get
plenty of facts and plenty of
things for us to consider please
come and bring your neighbor
cotton raiser.
"This is the first counts-wide
meeting which I have called in
about two years and I am awfully
anxious that we have a large-
crowd of people interested in
cotton raising.' We want all the
vocational agricultural teachers;
especially do we want the gin-
ners editors bankers and com-
press managers to be present
with the farmers.

ands of dollars to the peojle of
