week announced as a candidate
for re-election for a second term
Senator Head is basing his
candidacy for re-election on the
record he has made in the Seiv
ate during nis tenure oi omce.
He said lie would issue a lorman
statement elaborating on his
platform at a later date.

Initial steps in the organiza
tion of a Bartlett Band Booster
i Club were taken at a "meeting -of
a smau group of interested citi
zens Thursday night at" the high
chool building. Mrs. C. J. Zitel-
man director or the Dand acted
as temporary chairman for the
"meeting.
Organization will be complet
ed rwith the selection of a presi
dent capable of directing the or-
ganization and' at the same time
in position to devote the neces
sary time to sponsoring the pro
gram of the organization.
Mrs. R. E. Hudspeth was el-
ected vice-president ; Mrs. C:B.
-Overby secretary ; Mrs. C. .Shel-
t&n Jr. treasurer and R. C.
Ford reporter.
An active drive for member
ship will be'gin in the next few
days. The membership tee has
been set at 25c per annum. The
small fee was set because the
success of the organization de-
pends upon a large active mem
bership that is interested in the
activities of the band.
Membership in the organiza
tion is open to anyone interested
in the-band. The purpose ot the
organization is to secure the co-
operation of the citizenship-at-
llarge with the band its activi
ties and its leader and to ren-
der any assistance possible to
the band And its program.
Regular meetings of the
group will be held on the first
Thursday in each month.

The Tribune acknowledges

local Finnish Relief fund being

As Congressman
W. R. (Bob) Poage who is
now in Washington for the reg-
ular session of Congress places
his name in the announcement
column of The Tribune this week
as a candidate for re-election as
Congressman from the Eleventh
Texas District.
Con. Poage has served this
district which begins at the Bell-
'WUJiamson County line for the
past four years. He won the
race for the office over Frank
Tirey when 0. H. Cross retired
four years ago. Two years ago

noon at the Val Verde Baptist
church with Rev. G. W. Robbins
and Rev. V. B. Breazeale offici-
ating. Mrs. UnderwoodAwas formerly
Miss Bertha Townsend daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. John Town-
send. She was reared in Val
Verde and was a member of the
Baptist church there. In 1923
she was married to' Walter Un-
derwood and to this union were
born seven children.
Survivors include her hus
band her parents and seven
children Wilma Dean John

Lou Nell. Patsy Ruth and an in

Bucek Reviews Year

Work In Precinct
Thirty-two miles of grayel
and adobe road have been built
in precinct three of Williamson
County during the past year
Commissioner J. J. Bucek stat
ed today in reviewing the year's
work.
Three roads are listed in his
report of W. P. A. project No.
12699. They were built at a cost
to the government of ?41G447?
and to the precinct of $17847-
74. On these roads the Commis
sioner spent $2105.38 for lum
ber iron culverts ana oiocKing.
In his office Mr. Bucek keeps
a large county map with all of
the gravel roads of the precinct
marked in red ink. The map
is available to the public any
time the office is open.
New gravel roads are now
under construction in the 1940
program and are being worked
on whenever tne weatner per-
mits. Mr. Bucek also expressed his
appreciation to the many friends
who have urged 'him to enter
the commissioner's race again
this year and states that he is
