Homer M. Gibbs rural de
velopment specialist has been
employed by Texas' Power and
Light Company to assist its farm
and rural customers and to work
with existing agricultural agenc-
ies and other interested groups
in improving farm practices.
"It has always been the policy
of this Company to help develop
the area it serves" said W. W.
Lynch president "because the
prosperity of Texas depends
basically upon the prosperity of
agriculture. Through the work of
Mr. Gibbs and his staff we hope
to contribute to the long-range
development of better farming
practices which will assure Tex-
as faimers of larger incomes and
will conserve for future Texans
the agricultural resources of the
state."
Mr. Gibbs has served as voca
tional agriculture teacher in Gal
veston County and as assistant
and then county agricultural
agent of Fort Bend County. In
these positions he worked active-'
iy wivn ootn ruiure farmers
and 4-H Club groups.
During the war he spent two
ears in the U. S. Navy and
aftei his discharge returned for'
a year as Fort Bend County'
Agent. In 1947 he became super-'
visor of the rural department of
the Houston Light & Power'
Company where he served on1
junior iivesrooK ami pounr
committees of the Houston Fat
Stock Show.
Mr.Gibbs was born on a farm
near Justin in Denton County
where his parents still live. Here
he attended rural school and the
local high school. He received his
B. S. Degree from North Texas
State College majoring in ani-
mal husbandry and did research
in soil conservation for his mast-
er's degree from Sam Houston
College at Hunsbville.
"I believe improved agricult-
ure is the most important factor
in our national life today" Mr.
Gibbs said "and working with
Texas farmers in their efforts to
increase yields at lower cost and
at the same time reclaim and
conserve the resources of the
soil constitutes one of the most
important contributions that can
be made to maintaining our way
of life."
Mr. Gibbs will assume the
duties formerly assigned to Fred
M. Shaw whom he succeeds.

.f you go shopping today the comfort of the
store you trade at will likely be provided by
Lone Star Natural Gas Service. The store will
be cleaner and the merchandise will be fresher
because natural gas is so clean.
It is impossible to imagine a modern and
successful store without natural gas service.
In the last five years 17871 new stores have
been opened in cities we serve That's one of
the reasons for our building program in which
we have invested over 80 million dollars.
Though virtually all materials and labor for
building natural gas pipe lines compressor
Stations and other facilities have gone up in
price our commercial rate has not been in-
creased. The truth is Lone Star commercial
rate for stores is lower today than 10 years ago.
Lone Star is keeping abreast of the growth
of every community it serves At the same
time wo are keeping the price of natural gas
service down
