January was scarce according
to the. official gauge kept by.
Will Cox. There was rainfall on
only one day January 19 and it
amounted to .25 inches.
With aH the cold weather
here in January Bartlett resi-
dents may be lucky to have
had such little rainfall.
Last year 1.5 inches was re-
ceived in January and 3.65 was
received in 1961. Three inches
fell in 1960 and in 1959 .90
inches fell;

Everyone who wants to join
the Chamber of Commerce in
1963 may do so now as the drive

100 mark for the past few years
and. the local group is hoping to
go over: the top again as soon as

tion is about the same as last
yeaij according to figures re-
leased this week by Supt. D. A.
Swope.
There are 358 students count-
ed for the year and there were
62 studeTitsin Bartlett High
and Grammar School last year.

which is also the approximated
figure for last year.

Hurt B Accident
Pete Vasquez is in a George-
town hospital this week recup-
erating from an injury he re-
ceived last week while workinc
"on the highway near Jarrell. A
rock crusher he was working
with came loose striking Vas-
quez on the leg.

Fire Here Tuesday
Destroys Barn
Burns Pastures
A fire at .noon Tuesday de
stroyed the barn on the John
Henry farm and burned the pas-
ture on the Henry and Johnny
Barabas farms.
Local firemen were called
but the barn was destroyed be
fore the fire was discovered. A
hand house on the property was
not. hrirmfid;
Fire Chief Milford Watson
stated that no orte knew how the
fire started or whether it orig
inated in the barn or pasture.

Meets Monday

WSCS' met in the church Mon

meeting; and: worship' program.

Announcement was made to turn
in the World Bank offering at
the February meetings.
Mrs. Stanley Schwertner led
the program on "What Shall We
Tell Our Children About Race?"
The worship setting was a table

a cross and flowers of different
colors representing the races of

Was sung by the group and after

Pumphrey gave talks entitled
"Answering Children's Ques-
tions" and "Some Historical
Facts Regarding Race." Mrs.
Schwertner gave the closing re-
marks and the benediction.
A discussion period directed
by the leader was held. A hymn
closed the program.

1963 Now on Sale
Automobile license plates for
1963 are on sale in Bartlett at
the law office of Kirby Vance.
The deadline for purchasing
the new plates and having them
on the cars in March 31.
Plates in Bell County- will
have an FT prefix. In Bartlett
the numbers will be FT 2475
through FT 2899. Williamson
County plates will have an AP
prefix.
Boys Attempt To
Rob Coin Machine
Two white boys were foiled
in an attempt to break into a
change machine at the Bartlett
liaundromat around: 7;:30; p.; m.
Monday night. They were not
apprehended however.

gineers' and Congressman W. R.
Poage requesting that a bridge

area.
It was announced that the
March of Dimes canvass in the
residential area would' be held
this week. The canvass has been
completed in the business sec-
tion. It was announced that 31' paid

in the Chamber of Commerce

hostess to the Evening Circle of
jthe Presbyterian Women. of the
