We hone you noticed in the
last issue of the Tribune that
Bartlett cooperates with other
towns of the area when special
occasions are celebrated. The
Bartlett Chamber of Commerce
float has appeared in several
parades recently prior to the
July 4 celebrations in Central
Texas.
Misses Jane Williams Rhon-
da Bunte and Peggy Pacha rode
on the Chamber float in the par
ade in Georgetown last Thurs-
day June 28th and in the Tay
lor Parade Monday afternoon.
Miss Brenda Shiplett' daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis
Shiplett represented Bartlett as
duchess in the July 4 parade in
Uelton. Misses Donna Wade
Vicki Shiplett and Louise Ship-
lett rode on the Chamber float.
Miss Rita Batla daughter of

Cancer Society
Funds Improve
The East Williamson Coun-
tv unit of the Texas Division
of the American Cancer So-
ciety has gone over the top
and improved over the prev-
ious vear in the annual cru-
sade for the 21st consecutive
year.
The total this year accorr1-
injj to C. L. Carson the crusade
chairman is $7070.94 the
crusade having been declared
complete by late June.

Three local girls Peggy Pa-
cha. Rhonda Bunte and Jane
Williams rode the Bartlett
Chamber of Commerce float in
the Georgetown parade last
Thursday and in the Taylor pa-
fade on Monday afternoon. Tak-
ing the float to the parades

The Chamber of Commerce
float will be represented in the
Belton parade on July 4th with

and Donna Wade riding the
float;
New dresses were made for
girls riding the float by Mrs.
Leroy Pacha Mrs. Walter Bun
te and Mrs. Francis Shiplett.
Material for the dresses was do-
nated by Marek Bros. Gin.

Bartlett duchess selected for
the Belton July 4th parade is
Brenda Shiplett.
Mrs. Horton died early Sun
day in a Taylor hospital follow
ing a short illness.
She Was born in the Conoley
community south of Thorndale
later moving to Milam County
with.hflr family where her fa-
ther was sheriff. She grew up
in Bartlett and married Walter
Horton in 1914. She painted and
taught music to students for
about 60 years. She sang in se-
veral looal quartets and played
cornet in the municipal band.
Surviving are her husband
Walter Horton of Taylor; three
sons Burke Horton of Malvern
Pa. Billy Horton. of Washing-
ton D. C and Carter Horton of
Kerrville; a sister Mrs. Bessie
Watts of Stephenville; 12 grand
children and 3 great-grandchildren.

Reunion Sunday
The annual Spicgelhauer fam
ily reunion will be held Sunday
Uily 8th at the American Le
gion Hail in mrtlett with Mr.
and Mrs. Elmo Nicholson as
chairmen.
Each family is asked to bring
a basket lunch for the noon meal
and drinks bread plates cups

Raymond Malechek
Former Resident
Dies Monday
Funeral services for Raymond
T. Malechek 58 of Jarrell for-
mer local resident will be held
at 10 a. m. Wednesday at the
Goodnight Funeral Home in I
Bartlett.
Mr. Malechek "died late Mon-
day afternoon in a Georgetown
hospital following a short illness.
RESIDENTS RETURN
FROM TOUR
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bielss
and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sturm
returned home Sunday evening
from a very interesting 4000
mile tour through a number of
Western States with the Grang
er Road Runners.
Some of the highlights of the
tour included an Aerial Tram
ride to Sandia peak in New
Mexico; the painted desert; pe-
trified forest; Grand Canyon in
Arizona; Las Vegas Neveda;
Bigham Copper Mine ; Salt Lake
in Utah; Jackson Hole; Yellow-
stone in Wyoming; a Cog Rail-
way ride to Pikes Peak; and a
tour to the Cripple Creek Gold
Mines in Colorado.

The Bartlett Electric Co-op
erative entertained with a bar-
becue supper in Taylor Friday
night.
Sixty-two were in attendance
including employees directors
of the Co-op and their families.

Bartlett's undefeated Cardi-
nals defeated the Holland Horn-
ets here Thursday evening 25-3.
Rob Ford was the winning
pitching pitching 6 innings and
giving up 7 hits.
Leading hitter was Charles
Crathers with 2 triples and 1
sinirle'.
The Cardinals will host the
Holland Lions Thursday night
July 5.
Red Sox Defeat
Green Caps
With one game lost for the
season at the present time Bart-
lett's Red Sox defeated the
Granger Green Caps 17-11 in
Granger Thursday evening with
all boys from the Red Sox team
playing in the game.
Winning pitcher was Mark
White and the leading hitter
was Martin Perez going 4 for 5.

Crusade For Christ
Begins Sunday At
Baptist Church
CRUSADE FOR CHRIST
Evangelist Bill Ryan of
Whitney Texas will be in Bart-n
lett July 8th-15th to conduct
a Crusade for Christ at the
First Baptist Church. Ryan will
be delivering Bible centered
messages each evening at 7:30
p. m. and will be teaching God's
Word each morning at 10:0O
a. m. Melton L. Miles is nastor
of the church and he invites
the public to attend each service
of the crusade.
Brother Ryan has served four
churches two in California and
two in Texas over a period of
sixteen years as pastor. He has
been in full time evangelistic
work for some time now and has
conducted crusades for Christ
in many churches located in.
fourteen states Ryan believes
the Christian life is a happy
joyful thrilling experience and
that Christianity is not a dull
drab pious liturgical-type reli-
gion but a bright colorful en-
joyable rewarding walk with
the Lord Jesus Christ.
The theme of Brother Ryan's
life and message is the Abund-
ant Life God wants every per-
son to know about that is found
in Jesus Christ God's Son. He
preaches and believes the Bible
to be the inspired Word' of God
and states that every need man
Kind has can be satisfied when
the Biblical message is applied
to his life.
The crusade music program
will be under the direction of
Brother Gary Covin. There will
be special music each evening of
the crusade. Brother Covin has
a marvelous musical voice and
loves to use it to praise the
Lord. He joins with Brother
Ryan to say that life is full of
Joy when you walk with the
Lord.

57 Accidents In
May Reported For
Wmson. County
The Texas Highway Patrol in-
vestigated 57 accidents on rural
highways in Williamson County
during the month of May ac-
cording to (Sergeant Fred Hurst
Highway Patrol Supervisor of
this area.
These 57 accidents have re-
sulted in 2 deaths and 22. in-
juries for the' month' of Mav
1973.
These figures result in a total
of 306 accidents with 11 deaths
and 147 injuries in Williamson
County during 1973.
