FORD FORUM
FACTS AND FUN
By Nora and Robert
This week we borrow the col-
umn "Forum" written by Bob
Ford in The Holland Progress
Jast week. Making the trip from
Bartlett were Mr. and Mrs. Don
Thaler Mr. and Mrs. Maurice
Steglich and Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Ford. Others in the group were
from Taylor Austin and Waco.
When I was in high school I
used to hear about people vaca-
tioning in Acapulco and dream
about going there someday. At
that time only the wealthy
could go and so the dream was
very far away.
Now though things are more
open to we po' folks and air
travel is reasonable thank
goodness and so a dream came
true over the long week-end
holiday.
Acapulco is a beautiful city
both by day and night. The
sites structures vegetation
fish and everything else wo
saw was out of this world as
they say and the most over-
worked word I heard all week-
end was 'beautiful.'
We went with 18 crazy won-
derful people and had a great
time. A few of them had been'
w mnv ttmoo wn mi
there many times before and
knew the ropes. They picked
out a great hotel for us La
Caleta which had a 'regular
pool a salt water pool and
opened to the Pacific and Cal-
eta's two beaches.
. u U.1W.
The view from our room was
spectacular and each room had
its own balcony where we
spent many hours watching the
sights seeing the people swim
below and having our coffee.
On Sunday afternoon the peo-
pie looked like a million ants on
the beach below. The courtyard
consisted of flowers huge
palms and pretty flowers
hedge and green grass huge
stones and pools. We spotted an
iguana or gila on a stone be-'
low but he didn't show up in The public is invited to at-
our pictures. (tend as many are expected to
One of the highlights of the. be present including the presi-
trip was the dive of death that ding Bishop Rt. Rev. John
the divers do from the hugoJHurst Adams and the supervi-
cliffs that you have seen on t.v. 'Sor Mrs. Dolly Adams.
The one we saw occurred at'
11:30 p.m. and they turned out
most of the lights while the
diver went off the peak with
two lighted torches.
An earthquake shook the
huge structure while we were
there but we weren't sure what
it was until wo heard everypne
talking about it the next day.
The place 'to. breakfast and
sit in the sun our friends told
us was a place on Condesa
Beach called Teo and Alex. The
huevo rancheros were good and
it didn't take long to get used
to having our eggs with hot
sauce black beans and fried on-
ions. It was' great but some of
the more faint-hearted prefer-
red the fruit plato which was
also great especially the man-
gos and fresh pineapple.
Limes must grow by the bill-
ions down there bacuse they
put lime on everything from
beer to pineapple. Some of tho
food was good and some was
not and you have to be careful
where you eat because Monte-
zuma's revenge is always wait-
ing around the corner and
some of our friends got it op
the turista if you prefer.
We did try some now' tilings:
barbecued shrimp limed beer
turtle eggs which looked like
smashed ping pong balls; coco
loco and a few other things.
Some of our group tried tho
parachute jump where tho
chute is pulled aloft over the
bay by a speed boat. It looked
like fun but I don't even like
