Chargec With Impertinence and Insur

Brownlow of Tennessee a clerk in the
postoffice department who acted as
disbursing officer of the department of
the St Louis exposition was dismissed
from the service Tuesday by order of
the president Brownlow was charged
with impertinence and Insubordination
and as he declined to withdraw offen-
sive language the dismissal followed
While Postmaster General Payne wan
yet alive he wrote Brownlow directing
that he send to the department a state-
ment of his receipts and disbursements
In response Brownlow forwarded the
aggregate sums of his receipts and
disbursements The postmaster gener-
al then ordered him to submit to the
department an Itemized statement of
moneys he had handled This Brown
low decilined to do accompanying his
refusal with statements to the post-
master general which were considered
offensive
Postmaster General Pyne presented
the matter to the president who gave
orders that Br wnlow should be dis-
missed from the service This action
has just been taken

days session of the convention of the
American Federation of Labor was
abruptly concluded shortly after the
afternoon session was called to order
A change In the programme was neces-
sitated by the flood of resolutions
which poured In when President
Gompers called for these documents
In the space of half an hour slxty
ono were handed to Secretary Morrison
They were of almost every character
that could effect trade organizations
ranging from such topics as petty dis-
putes on union Jurisdiction to such
questions as woman suffrage and tha
exclusion of Japanese The adjourn-
ment was taken that the proper com-
mittees might have tho afternoon and
evening to consider the resolutions
ANOTHER BOLD DBED
Two Bandits Hold Up a Saloon and
Rob tho Inmates
Cheyenne Wyo Nov 16 The two
bandits who made a recent raid on the
National Bank of Cody two weeks ago
and killed Cashier Mlddaugh com-
mitted another bold robbery early Tues-
day when the held up the Inmates of
Edwards saloon and gambling house
at the Thermopolls Big Horn county
and secured a large sum of money
watches and Jewelry The outlaws
were masked but were recognized as
George Merrltt and his partner who
killed MIddaugh They were mounted
on fast horses and escaped to the bad-
lands along the Big Horn river south
