Monday afternoon the north-
bound passenger train No 2 was
wrecked at 320 about a mile the
other side of Woodlawn by the
rear truck of the engine tender
jumping the track and tearing up
tho bridge that crossed Fox creek
The engine got over but tho mail
car express baggage and smoker
went into the ditch The express
messenger Roy Letohworth was
the only ono injured and he not
very serious The wreck was not
cleared up until about 12 oclock
that night
It was Gus Marshalls house
that burned across the river last

To tho people of Marion County
There was a called meeting of
the Commissioners Court of Ma-
rion county of this duto the ob-
ject of which was to comiidnr Ways
and meanB by the City of Jeffer-
son might secure the removal of
Emerson College from Campbell
Texas to Jefferson The location
of the school if it should bo moved
to Jefferson whould be in the old
Marion county court house west
tho Texas Pacific railroad Em-
erson College at present located
nt Campbell is a prosperous and
flourishing institution of learning
with a faculty of twelve to fifteen
educatois and an attendance of
over 200 students for this session
It is desired to get a better loca-
tion for the school for the pupose
of expanding its scope of work
and from information furnished
our court we believe if locat-
ed at Jefferson it woulS develop
into a school of four or five hun-
dred students
After a consideration of the mat-
ter by the court und before any
action was taken by the court as to
the court house property belong
ing to the county we desired to
submit the entire matter to the
people of the county in mass meet-
ing and there decide what was the
beat course for the court to pursue
as well as for the citizens gener-
ally to take such steps in refer-
ence to the matter as to them
seemed right and proper By di-
rection of the Commissionors Court
a mass meeting of the citizens of
Marion County is there called to
meet at the county court house
Monday April 3rd at 11 oclock
a m to consider thematter of
securing the school The presi-
dent and owner of the Emerson
College will be present on said oc-
casion to address the meeting and
to furnibh such information as may-
be necessaryr It is the earnest
desire of the court that every per-
son in the county interested in the
matter of schools and the upbuild
ing of the county will be present
on the date named
