counties of Texas The lands alone
would sufficiently increase in value

roads would put every farm nearer
town would enable those who people
them to haul their products to market
at a minimum cost in time etc Tyould
promote good schools and churches

half a dozen new railroads because
they would directly benefit more peo-
ple The civilizing influence would
be great They would bring tor the
county a better class of citizenship
would make for better schools and
churches would enhance the values
of property and would put more
money into the pockets of the people
In fact these roads would be great
wealth producers enabling people of
the rural districts to wear better
clothes own better stock and ve-
hicles and would profit them in a
thousand ways
The small tax each individual would
be required to pay would be as noth-

By all means let us have the roads

GET ON THE FIRING LlrJE
The first meeting of the Board of
Trade for the good new year of 1909
is called for this evening and to in-
itiate the new year of hustling and
building the meeting will take on
something of the dignity of a rally
and contribute to the glory of the pur-
poses of the Board In other words
if you please it is a call to arms and
the meeting will demonstrate or
should demonstrate who are on the
firing line for the coming year and
who are to be regarded as camp fol-
lowers and coffee coolers That is
putting It frankly The men who are
ready to work for the good of the
town during the coming twelve-
months are expected to be at the
Board meeting tonight yes even if It
is cold If your personal affairs de-
manded your presence at your store
or your office or your shop you would
be there and the business of the
Board of Trade is of personal inter-
est to all of us Through it we ex-
pect to improve the conditions in our

assert with a degree of positiveness
that the glorious summer time has
taken its departure and frostcrowned
winter nestles under our collar again
reminding us that if the weather is
not too hot it is pretty apt to be too
cool for most people

Piesident Roosevelt has sent a
special message to congress asking
for legislation giving the Intel state
Commerce Commission power to force
answers to questions in investigations
Congress should respond It came as
a distinct shock to most Americans
when the higher courts decided that
the commission could not force an an-
swer from one Harriman in reference
to his stock operations It was a
shock to letrn that the great national
commission surrounded with all of
its dignity and supposed powers of
inquiry could not go as far as the
ordinary country grand jury and
make a witness answer questions put
to him If a common citizen fractures
the law in the slightest degree he can
be forced before a grand jury and
made to unbosom himself but a trust
baron can give the big commission
the haughty air decline arid go on to
his club or board meeting And too
it is law

POSITIVE CURE FOR INDIGESTION
If you have indigestion your food
ferments in the stomach and bowels
It does more it decays andthe nu-
tritious matter which should go to
make new blood decays with it and
this loads to an impoverished condi-
tion of the blood to nervousness bil-
iousness constipation sick headache
bad breath which disgusts your
friends and other disagreeable and
unpleasant conditions
And all this trouble is caused by
the food that doesnt digest but fer-
ments and oftimes rots in the stom-
ach
And fermentation Is caused by the
stomach not being strong enough and
energetic enough to thoroughly mix
the food with the digestive juices
Miona Is responsible for tens of
thousands of cures In fact it is such
a positive cure for indegstion and all
stomach troubles that it is guaranteed
by Bratton Drug Company to cure or
money back The price of a large bov
of Miona tablets is 50 cents and
they are sure to promptly reliee the
worst case of indigestion or gastritis

The following figures and compari

readers An effort was made to get a
record pt the number of deeds filed
during the past year in the county
but this was not practical on short

not tieeds make the division a slbw
undertaking But1 there are other
figures not so difficult to obtain For
instance there is the mortgage and
here is the record
