building which was made by four JA
cowhands who lived at the ranch head-
quarters -- J.D. Woodburn, J. T. Chris-
tian, Fred A. Scott, and J. W. Martin--
can be seen in the museum of the
Panhandle-Plains Historical Society at
Canyon, Texas.

ED AND CAROL HARRELL
Edward Charles (Ed) Harrell was
born June 10, 1935. He is the second
child and only son, of Newton and Helen
Harrell. Ed attended the public schools
in Canyon, Texas, and was graduated
from Canyon High School in 1952. The
summer of 1952 Ed spent with his
parents on a safari to Africa. Ed
killed a leopard on this hunt along
with his share of the other game ani-
mals.
Ed enrolled at the University of
Texas in the fall of 1952, and continued
there until 1956 when he was graduated
with a degree in finance. He was a
member of Delta Upsilon, social fra-
ternity. The following fall, Ed was in
the army stationed in Virginia. He
holds the rank of Reserve Captain today.
On August 31, 1957, Ed was married
in Port Arthur, Texas to Miss Carol
Ray Flynn. Carol was born May 5,
1936 in Port Arthur. Her parents were
Henry and Lettie Olean Tracy Flynn.
Henry Flynn, her father, was graduated
from M.I.T. with a degree in chemicalengineering, and is now a vice-presi-
dent of Texaco, Inc. He makes his
home in New York City. Mrs. Flynn
was a home economics graduate of
college of industrial arts (Denton,
Texas), now Texas Woman's Univer-
sity. She died in 1949.
Carol attended school in Port
Arthur, graduating from high school
in 1954. She attended the University
of Texas from 1954 until her gradua-
tion in 1957. She was a member of
Zeta Tau Alpha, social sorority, and
of Phi Beta Kappa.
Following her marriage to Ed Har-
rell in 1957 and a European tour for
their honeymoon, Ed and Carol estab-
lished their home on the Harrell Ranch
southwest of Claude. Their first Chris-
tmas was spent on Umnak Island, Alaska
where they remained for six weeks.
They have been another time to the
Island for such a period of time.
In 1959-60, Carol taught fifth grade
in the Claude Schools. The couple are
parents of two children: Lettie Helen
Harrell, born June 14, 1962, and Newton
Henry Harrell, born September 7, 1964.
The Ed Harrells are very active
both in church and civic activities of
their communities. They live on the
borderline between Randall, Armstrong
and Potter counties they are drawn to
the communities of Claude, Canyon and
Amarillo. Their church membership
is in the First Presbyterian Church,
Canyon, where Carol teaches a Sunday
School class and Ed is a deacon. Ed is
active in work of the Farm Bureau,
T.S.C.R.A., is President of Delta Up-
silon Foundation; Carol is a member of
Le Temps Club, Unit Club,Llano Club,
all of Claude, and the Junior Travel
Study Club of Amarillo.
