Dr. William Jackson Rogers practiced medicine in
Quitman from 1870 until 1891. From Quitman he
moved to Belcherville, Texas, then to Hereford, where
he lived until he died 6 July 1912.

WILLIAM DAVID KITCHENS, born 18 April 1872
in Wood County, was the son of William and Sara
Kitchens who had come to the Yantis area in the
1860's. He was the youngest of nine children. His father
died before he was born, and his mother when he was
four. At the age of nine he was a farmer's helper and
was paid 50 cents a week with room and board. He
attended school through the third grade.
In his late teens, William David traveled
throughout Wood County selling pianos and organs. He
spent the night wherever he happened to be, uncrated a
piano or organ and led in playing and singing. He
usually sold the instrument with little difficulty.
In 1896, William David married Frances Ella
Hathcox, daughter of Alvis J. and Samantha E. Smith
Hathcox, who came to Yantis from Georgia circa 1865-
1870. Their first house was built of piano crates.
William D. (Dave) Kitchens moved to Mineola
about 1898 and engaged in a number of enterprises. He
was co-owner and operator of the Kitchens-Ray Saw
Mill in the Redland Community, ran a livery stable in
Mineola, a cafe and confectionery, second hand fur-
niture store, and the Kitchens and Brandon Saloon. In
the early 1900's, he established the W. D. KitchensHardware Store. This store is now owned and operated
by David V. Kitchens.
The children of William David and Frances E.
Kitchens were:
Charm, taught school in Mineola for 30 years;
married Doctor Charles A. Reitch
Ethel, married (1) John Cowan; (2) Dallas H.
Canterburry
Paul, did not marry
Jack, married Mary Evelyn Drum
David, married Rosemond Harman
Nancy Kitchens, born 1868, a sister of William
David Kitchens, married Thomas Sturch, a farmer in
the Yantis area who came from Alabama. Two
daughters were born to this marriage. One daughter,
Pauline, married W. H. Humphreys, a post office
employee in Mineola for 50 years.

JOHN A. LEE, born 24 February 1839, and his
wife, Mary A. Flynn Lee, came to Wood County in
1871. They settled in the Cartwright Community circa
1873. John Lee was a Confederate veteran. He enlisted
in the Civil War in 1862 and served until its close.

Levi L. Lee, married Birdie Harkey

John A. Lee died in 1902; his wife Mary died in
1904.
JOHN B. LEE, son of John A. and Mary A. Lee,
was born 8 May 1863 and came to Wood County with
his parents. He married (1) Alice R. Raley; (2) Martha
Lenora Turner. Three children were born to the first
marriage. Children of J. B. and Martha Turner Lee
were:
