CHURCH DEED
The following is a copy of the original deed conveying
church site to the Methodist Episcopal Church in the
Center Community:
The State of Texas
County of Wood Know all men by these present that
I Sarah W. Maxey of the County of Lamar, in the State
aforesaid, in consideration of the sum of Six (6.00)
Dollars to me paid by the Trustees of the Methodist
Episcopal Church of (Center) in the County of Wood,
State of Texas, the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged, have granted, bargained, sold and
released, and by these present do grant, bargain, sell
and release unto the said Trustees of the Methodist
Episcopal Church of (Center) all that tract of land
situated in Wood County and State of Texas, described
as follows, to wit: Two acres a parte of the Headright of
John Hawly, commencing at the North East Corner of
said survey. Beginning at a stake on Mr. (J. H.) Ray's
W B line running South with said Ray's W B line 99
yards a stake. Thence North 99 yards, a stake-Thence
East with the N B line of said survey 98 yards to the
beginning containing two acres Together with all and
singular, the rights, members, hereditaments and ap-
purtenances, to have and to hold all and singular, the
premises above mentioned, unto the said Trustees of" 1

successors and assigns forever, In Trust that said
premises shall be used, kept, maintained and disposed
of as a place of Divine Worship for the use of the
Ministry and membership of the Methodist Episcopal
Church in the United States of America; subject to the
Discipline, usages and Ministerial appointments of
said Church, as from time to time authorized and
declared by the General Conference of said Church and
the Annual Conference within whose bounds the said
premises are situate. And I do bind myself, my heirs,
executors and administrators, to warrant and forever
defend, all and singular, the said premises unto the
said Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church at
Center their successors and assigns, against every per-
son whomsoever, lawfully claiming or to claim the
same, or any part thereof. Witness our hands and seals,
using scrawls for seals, this Third day of December A D
1879.
