February 17
Reports from tho Wildcat training
quarters aro that the Cats aro work-
ing in dead earnest to complete tho
Benson with three victories for tho
three remaining games. Although
tho season to date has been rather
disastrous considering tho fact that
tho Morrismen have not won a gamo
since tho gamo with McMurry early
in tho season they have been improv
ing all along showing much improve
ment Jn handling tho ball hero last
week with Canyon as their foe.
Morrismen Improving
With a Httlo more precision at hit-
ting tho basket both on guarded and
frco shots which thoy aro gaining
this week tho Wildcat basketmen
should bo able to shako that losing
jinx in the cqmlng games with Dan-
iel Baker and McMurry.
. Tuesday afternoon found them
scrimmaging lively.
Daniel Baker has made a slightly
better record so far .this season than
At C. C. Following tho Wildcats Into
-East and North Texas tho Hill Billies

and n closer game with tho East
Texas. Thoy dropped both contests
to Canyon but lost one of them by
only ono point. Tho Billies also suc-
ceeded in splitting tho series with Sul
Ross another twin victor over tho
Cats.
e On-tliether-haBd-McMurry has
fared not ono whit hotter than tha
lowly Felines in fact hardly so well
for tho Cats hold an early season vic
tory of 21 to 10 giving tho Morris
men an edge in tho coining encounter.
. In fact tho Indians haven't won ono
basketball gamo to date.. They have
been shut out in twin bills by Daniel
Baker Sul Ross and Canyon besides
losing single engagements to Texas

night after tho Indians had held the
score to a 10-10 tio to run up a 41-

Fighting For Cellar
Probable startera for tho Baker
and McMurry engagements will bo
' Reynolds and Lawrenco at forwards
Wntklns at center and Captain Pip
nnn nnrl Reese back at guards. Oth
ers ready for action are Powelli
' Wortham and I Hill guards White
Allen and Carter. Day has been out
with an injured leg and probably will
seo little- sorvico in the coming frays.
A. CO. Daniel Baker and McMur-
ry aro all three hopelessly out of the
. conference race' and will bo fighting
hvtheso three games to stay ou. or
got out of tho cellar position.
c
In an easily won gome Monday aft-
ernoon tho Ragknota took tho team
from Draughon's Business Collego
down a notch or three by dofcating
them 0-0. Tho Raggles had Httlo or
no trouble; and had; tho gamo lasted
longer tho. score would hnvo' been
much moro decisive.
Tho Draughon's team prcsontcd a
poor combination oiad passes and
rotten goal shooting .though they
woro hard fighters and. novcr gave
up tho ship. Henry Brown was tho
best bet for them scoring all of their
six. points and doing most of tho do-
fenso work.
Tho Ragknota couldn't seem to got
together but thoy wero still n Httlo
too good for tho visitors. Tho lineup
for tho Ragknots was: Carter
Grimes North Baker Allen Kroner
Gray Coffmnn Keyes and Hill.

I think:
Charles Reynolds is one of tho most
accurate shots in our half of the T.
I. A. A. Ho is my pick for a head-
liner next year.
The most sensational shot of the
senson to date was the "Wortham"
hip pocket shot against Canyon mado
while traveling at top speed from tho
graveyard corner. Pick yours.
Conover gives promlso of develop-
ing into a weight man of not bad
ability. Ho moves across either the
shot or discus ring faster than tho
Great Adams. With a year or two of
development A. C. C. will have an-
other highly and justly rated 'J.
Eddie made" weight man.
Ono of J. Eddlo's point getters this
year will be Prosley Smith. Ho came-
to A. C. C. with Httlo or no experi-
enco at. the gamo ol vaulting and
within two years has raised his stan-
dard to tho eloven foot mark. It is
my' belief that he will master the
height of twelve feet or moro this
season. Ho is a Junior; may power-
and luck bo with bim in tho next two
seasons.

of the closest played by tho Raggies

In the second frame tho Ragknots

Things in thq Texas Interscholastic.

This should give some of the teama
that have never won a district title
a better chance to show their stuff.
The Oil Belt district will consist of
tho "Big Four" plug EnsUand. The
Big Four is known as Abilene Ran-
ger Cisco and Breckenrldge.
In another easy going easily won
ball game tho Ragknots redefeated
tho Balrd basketecrs by the scoro of
18-4 Tuesday afternoon. There were
plenty of bad passes and fumbling on
tho part of tho Bnird boys while the
Ragknots were not so very good
themselves. They showed an improve-
ment over tho playing of tho last
game however.
Mcintosh and Morgan again were
tho stars for tho visitors. Tho line

Practically all tho Southwest and
Texas Conference teams of tho pres-
ent day have been members of 'the
Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Asso-
ciation the TIAA; however most of
those in the first TIAA races for su-
premacy in college sports have with-
drawn to form other conferences.
The only exception la Daniel Baker
Collego of Brownwood which has
been In tho TIAA since 1011.
Tho firat track meet of the assocla.
tion was held on May 13 1910 at
Sherman Immediately after organ! za.
tion. Only three schools entered
teams. A. &M. College ran away
with the scoro by seventy-six points
to Southwcstern's thirty-six and Aus
tin College's twenty.
In 1011 Texas University entered
a team for the first time and almost
beat out A & M. Other teams enter-
ed were Daniel Baker and Baylor
University In addition to those in the
first meet. In tho following five
years Texas won the track meet ex-
actly five times with A. & M. trailing
her closely on all occasions
Tho United States entered the war
in 1017; consequently there was little
interest in track that year. Only two
teams entered Rice - Institute and
Trinity with Rice wining easily tak
ing ten out of fourteen firsts In.
terest waned altogether in the two
following years no met being held.
Interest revived again in 1020 wiy
Rico wining both in 1920 and 1921.
T. C. U. ond S. M. U. entered toams
for tho first time T. C. U. winning
four firsts in 1921 and three In 1922.
Other teams that entered about this
time were San Marcos Denton How-
ard Payne and Simmons.
Those meets have continued with
the major collegos dropping out from
timo to time to form other confer-
ences leading up to the time when
A C. C. entered and won tho cham-
pionship for three consecutive years
to cinch tho TIAA cup.
In looking over tho records of tho
winners in former meets threo well-
known track coaches aro seen to be
heading the list in their particular
events. xCoach Clyde Littlef leld of tho
University of Texas starred for that
school In 1013 1014 and 1015. He
won the 120-yard hurdles all three
years the 220-yard hurdles twice and
tho broad jump once.
Coach J.. B Chaney of Howard
Payne won the century in 1022 1023
and 1024 Besides this he won the
220-yard dash two yatrs and broke
tho then existing record in tho broad
jump.
Coach Eddie Weems of Abilene
Christian College then runlog for T
C U. won first in tho mllo and half-
mile events both in 1021 and 1022.
In 1022 he set a TIAA record in the
half-mile of two. minutes and two and
three-fifths seconds.
by Van Jones
Final efforts will bo mode this week

tional championship. Tho Sul Roas
Loboes will Invade the hqme of the
Buffaloes on Friday and Saturday but
It Is a safe bet that tho Rurtonmen
will finish their sectional campaign
without a slnglo reverse.
Tho McMurry College Indiana can
say one thing and that Is that they
held tho Canyon team to a 3 to 3 tio
for the first 14 minutes of their first
gamo at Canyon last week. At one
time tho Tribe was leading the Herd
7 to 4 and at the half the score was
tied 10 all but the Buffaloes got right
