Educator
wins award
By CANDY HOLCOMBE
Optimist Etaff
Dr. Dan J. Colvin winner of the 1986
Grover C. Morlan Award said he
follows ten basic steps for success in
the field of education.
Putting first things first is one of
these he saidThe world has become
very materialistic and if educators
aren't careful they can become caught
up in it he said.
Colvin said students entering the
teaching field need to keep the idea of
service in mind. If prospective
teachers go into teaching just to get as
much money as possible they may get
money but they may not be happy.
Colyin said he feels continuously
setting goals throughout life is also im-
portant. "The people at Abilene are an
excellent example of that" he said.
They are always giving he said. Too
many people just give up la'ter in life
and don't set goals he said.
Christianity must be first and
everything else should reflect that he
said.
Colvin said he and his wife will be
happy if they can raise their four
children to be Christians and see their
grandchildren raised as Christians '.
