Notes

Despite the application of vinyl or metal siding over portions of the building, this 1-story frame dwelling exemplifies the modified L-plan house with Queen Anne-style details. The most noteworthy architectural feature is the tower at the southeast corner of the front porch. This property is indicative of a locally popular house form in Palestine during the 1890’s and 1900’s. David B. and Lula McKenna were the earliest known owners of this house, and they lived here from as early as 1926. At that time Mr. McKenna worked as a general car foreman for the I&GN Railroad, and later for Missouri Pacific. After her husband’s death in the late 1930’s, Mrs. McKenna continued to live in the house, into the 1940’s. She was the daughter of Richard and Kiah Kolstad, and granddaughter of Soren Kolstad, and so this house represents a third generation of houses built on the original Kolstad land.
