In the opening intercollegiate
bout of the night Jerry Luker of
the Aggies showed too much class
for Danny Hale. The referee
stopped the fight in the second
round after Luker had pounded
Hale into the ropes.
A curtain raiser for the evening
found two tough fifty-pounders
battling away to a draw in three
one-minute rounds. Three intra-
mural bouts served to warm the
crowd up to the intercollegiate
card.
Library Receives
"Survey of Taylor
County' From TP
The H-SU library has been pre-
sented with a copy of An Eco
nomic Survey of Taylor County
which was only recently compiled
by the Bureau of Business Re-
search of the University of Texas.
Miss Thclma Andrws librarian
accepted the copy from J. J.
Finegan assistant to the president
.of the T. & P. Railway on behalf
of the University at a meeting
Feb. 10 at the Abilene Chamber
of Commerce. Also attending the
meeting which was presided over
by Chamber President Nib Shaw
were other railway officials in-
cluding Dr. Robert W. French
Director of the Bureau of Business
Research Chamber of Commerce
officials and several business
leaders of the city.
The meeting was held for the
dual purpose of presenting the
first copies of the survey and to
inform those who will use the
document something concerning
its background arrangement and
uses. Dr. French explained that
an economic survey was conduct-
ed in all the counties through
which the T. & P. Railway passes.
In Texas surveys were made in
62 counties and surveys were
made in Lounsiana in 23 parishes
with the Bureaus of Business Re
search in the state universities
handling the research in their re
spective states. All expenses in'
curred by the research groups
were defrayed by the railway
company. Both Dr. French and
Finegan praised the local Cham-
ber of Commerce for their assist-
ance in compiling the basic eco
nomic data on Taylor County for
the survey.
In his explanation of the uses
of the survey Dr. French empha-
sized its virtues as a daily refer-
ence work for students teachers
and business men. Since its cate-
gories include a complete study
of every economic aspect of the
county the report should prove
to be one of the most valuable
reference works in the library.
