Of 'Horizons' Mailed
More than 25000 copies of the
quarterly Horizons magazine
have been mailed to parents
alumni and friends of Abilene
Christian.
The second special issue to be
published this month's Horizons
features articles by eight College
staff members and businessmen.

school. Walter Burch was editor.
According to Harold Straughn
associate editor of the magazine
the three-fold purpose of Hori-
zons is to present a serious
academic view of campus life; to
stimulate scholarship and pro-
vide an outlet for scholarly work;
and to inform and Inspire friends
of ACC with enduring articles in
an attractive book.
Published ladt winter the first
special issue received the first
place award in periodical publi-
cations at the national convention
of the American College Public
Relations Association in Denver
Colo.
Barnett Fiibeck Attend
Chicago Education Meet
Dr. Weldon Burnett associate
professor of education and psy-
chology and Dr. Orval Fiibeck
head of the education depart-
ment leave for Chicago III Mon-
day. Barnett will attend a confer-
ence of the National Association
of Student Teaching. Fiibeck will
confer with the American As-
sociation of Colleges for Teach-
er's Education.
The two men on a week-long
Jaunt will stay at the Conrod Hil-
ton Hotel in Chicago.

Mrs. Rhlnard Troup school
nurse says that students who
think that they are coming
down with the flu should get
plenty of rest avoid close con-
tact with others drink plenty
of fluids and of course see
the nurse.
During January from 40-5
students a day were visiting
the nurse's office every day
and a good many of them had
the "old fashioned flu" which
kept the students in bed from
three to five days. During the
past two weeks the number
has declined.
Mrs. Troup attributes the
large number of cases to the
extreme changes in temper-
ature common to Texas hot
one day and cold the next.

Plans are now under way for
a series of campus debates as
suggested by an Optimist editorial
in a previous issue on current
political trends and issues. The
debates will be moderated by Pi
Kappa Delta debate fraternity.

Debaters Reach
Quarter Finals
Ronnie Roberts San Angelo
sophomore and John Ferguson
Garland freshman reached the
quarter finals in the Junior Men's
Division at the debate tournament
held at Baylor Feb. 2.
They were eliminated by East
Central Oklahoma College.
Two other teams also attended
the tournament. Placing in the
octo-finals was the team of Bobby
Smith San Angelo freshman and
Lynn Nelson Lubbock freshman.
Attending but not placing were
Bob Coleman Abilene sophomore
and Terrell Reagan Waco sopho-
more. Ferguson reached the finals in
Men's Junior Extemporaneous
Speaking but did not place.
Reagan placed third in Senior
Men's Oratory.
Mrs. McGinty Reviews
Prize Winning Book
Mrs. Montie McGinty associate
professor of speech at Abilene
Christian reviewed the book
'Times Three" by Phyllis Mc-
Ginley in Nelson Parlor Feb. 2
the second in a series of fine
book reviews by faculty mem-
bers. "Times Three'' was a Pulitzer
Prize winner of light verse in
1960. The book's title represents
the three decades of Miss Mc-
Ginley's writings. Approximately
85 persons attended the interview.
Dr. Frank Rhodes professor of
social science at ACC reviewed
the first book in the series Dec.
7 1901.
The next book review will be
given March 8 by Dr. Dale Hesser
associate professor of English.

Offered for Sixth
For the sixth straight summer
Abilene Christian College is offer-
ing fellowships for teachers in Its
American Studies Program.
One hundred fellowships are
offered fifty during each six-
weeks semester of the 1902 sum-
mer session June 5-July 13 and
July 17-August 24. The fellow-
ships will cover the cost of room
board tuition and fees.
The A. S. students may take
two of the following graduate
courses: Bible 399 Christianity
and Communism; Business Ad-

Larger and Better
"This year's thirty-six page
'Pickwickcr promises to be
larger and better than lost year's"
commented Linda Berry- editor.
The. "Plckwicker" is a student
publication consisting of the
writings of members of the Pick-
wickian Club. About one half of
the book will be made up of short
stories of different types with
illustrations for each article by
Worley Reynolds art editor.
Students earn membership in
the Pickwickcr Club by submit-
ting theh- writings. Then the
members vote on their articles.
This year aboult twenty students
have Uielr work published in the
"Plckwicker."
The book will be sold In the
