Sing Song a sorry substitute I
for school-sponsored sports
Bah humbug to Sing Song.
The mocking alliteration sounds
of the words "sing" and "song"
placed together at ACU equals one
thing to sports fans: No basketball.
Instead of a Lone Star Confer-
ence showdown during the final
week of the season we get cute
tunes parodies and those wonder-
ful Sing Song hosts and hostesses
with huge over-done smiles.
True this event which is fol-
lowed by Lectureship does bring a
better crowd than an ACU basket-
ball game can usually muster but
it is a different crowd largely
made up of alumni and guests
Let us not be selfish though
those who enjoy watching basket-
ball arc not the only ones who suf-
fer from the teams being away.
Do you remember those two
stretches in the season when the
womens basketball team played
three games in three nights once
on the road and once at home?
That was a result of the conference
having to shuffle our schedule to
work around Sing Song.
Had the LSC been able to use its normal scheduling
format both basketball teams would have ended their
seasons against Midwestern State University in the
friendly confines of Moody Coliseum.
Why have Sing Song when everything that Is need-
ed can be found at (he basketball games? The two are
similar in that Sing Song performances sometimes
have a jazz band accompanying them. The Abilene
High School jazz band plays during timeouts at the
games.
Second Sing Song hosts and hostess are like cheer-
leaders performing between the other acts and finally
