Neu Braunfelser Zeitung

The Neu Braunfelser Zeitung began publication in 1852, and was one of the earliest German-language newspapers in Texas. The community of New Braunfels initiated planning for the Zeitung in 1851, and its first issue was printed on November 12, 1852. "Braunfels" means "brown rock" in German, and New Braunfels, Texas, was named after the town of Braunfels, Germany. Digital access to the Neu Braunfelser Zeitung was generously supported by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under a TexTreasures grant.
