the context of a multi-state, regional, multi-arts discipline-based center that SIEVA has so
distinguished itself regionally and nationally. Because of this strength, SIEVA will continue to
touch even more districts, schools, teachers, and children.
C. PRQGRAMx[ESCRIPTQN
(a) SIEVA's Maintenance Programs
SIEVA will continue to offer a one-week renewal and mid-year renewal experience for
second year participants in the 37 participating school districts and private schools in SIEVA's
eight-state service region.
SIEVA will maintain its site visits, self-assessment, and long range planning programs to
monitor implementation at the classroom, building, and district level. Implementation
Enhancement Grants (IEG's) will continue to support innovative solutions to classroom, school,
and district implementation efforts.
SIEVA proposes to expand its technical assistance services and networking opportunities
for currently participating school districts.
SIEVA proposes to design a multi-tiered maintenance membership program for its
graduates with the following benefits: DBAE units of study and lesson plans; DBAE resource
lists; "best practices" and implementation case studies; a SIEVA newsletter; grant writing
assistance; packets of new material from each summer institute; SIEVA reunion opportunities
which will include a refresher program; and program evaluation assistance. SIEVA will
expand its strategies for the monitoring and follow-up of individual participants and provide
intervention strategies where attrition rates are high. Maintenance membership services
will be provided in a tiered structure and will be implemented on a sliding fee basis
throughout the grant period.
(b) SIEVA's Professional Development Programs
SIEVA will continue to offer a two-week institute at UTC for new teachers, administrators,
and parents from currently participating districts. Museum docents identified through a
proposed SIEVA Regional Museum Consortium (see Networking Opportunities) will be solicited
as participants. SIEVA proposes to create a new track for curators of education from the
proposed SIEVA Regional Museum Consortium. SIEVA will continue to offer its administrators'
institute for new administrators. SIEVA will continue to refine its identification and selection
of new districts, and does not intend to engage in a major recruiting effort for its UTC-based
institutes beyond that necessary for a single two-week institute at UTC.
SIEVA will offer assistance to selected districts which have demonstrated the initiatives and
resources to develop satellite institutes. Satellites will be distinguished as three types: (1)
