California state attorneys and Watson's lawyer, Bill Boyd of McKinney, will argue whether Texas should send the 24-year-old Watson to California for trial. Boyd filed a bill of particulars December 29th in which he said--quote--"the state of California has been inundated with publicity about this case and it would be impossible for the defendant to get a fair trial in California." After reviewing the testimony, Texas Secretary of State Martin Dies Junior will give a recommendation to Governor Preston Smith. Smith must decide on the extradition request from California Governor Ronald Reagan. The Texas Secretary of State said Watson is not scheduled to appear at the 10 a.m. hearing. Watson, a resident of Copeville, is in jail at McKinney."
