HOUSTON EXPLOSION
13-homes were destroyed and eight persons injure in A Mobil Oil natural gas pipeline explod&dn yesterday afternoon in the Northwood Community just north of the Houston city limits. The 14-inch pipeline erupted with a loud blast discharging fumes into the air with a loud whistling sound for some eight minutes before igniting with a loud boom. Eight hundred piunds of natural gas per square inch was being pumped through the pipe when it ruptured. The massive flames were so intense firmen were forced to work in shifts. Five firefighters were overcome by heat and smoke. Investigators said it was the eight minute time lapse between the first eruption and the exploding fire that prevented a greater number of injuries.
