CLEBURNE COURTROOM
BLOXOM :LIVE
FILM IN HERE
JUDGE WALKS
Coverage of trials has long been a thorn in the side
of television news. It is one of the few stories
that television is unable to tell with the use of
film. Newsmen are not allowed to take a camera in-
side a federal courthouse. In Texas, some state
courts allow cameras in the courtroom when the jury
is out...but this depends on the individual judge.
At the County CourthousA Judge John James
has worked out a compromise. Judge James says his
policy is to help in news converage as much as 15XXXM
possible without being in direct violation of higher
court rulings. One of these aids is a two..way
mirror near the bench. Behind it is a small press
room, unseen by anyone in the courtroom. There,
reporters can cover the trial and cameramen can
take pictures. Or at least they can TRY. Filming
through a dark glass sometimes results in bad ex-
posure.
But there's an alternative at the rear of the a -I.
