Athletic Director Fred McCain
Fred McCain is in his fifth year as athletic director at North Texas State
University. McCain, who began his association with NTSU in 1941, was
named athletic director at the Denton school July 7, 1982. McCain assumed
the position after serving as the Coliseum director at the university since
1973.
McCain returned to the athletic director role at NTSU for the second
time. He also served in that capacity for the department in 1972.
From 1950 through 1972, McCain was an assistant football coach for the
Mean Green program under both Odus Mitchell and Rod Rust.
McCain graduated from North Texas State in 1948. He was a member of
the 1941-42 NTSU football teams and resumed his career in Denton after
World War II in 1946. The '46 team posted a 7-3-1 record and participated
in the Optimist Bowl. McCain and the 1947 squad recorded a 10-2 mark, in-
cluding an appearance in the Salad Bowl in Phoenix.
McCain was also an assistant football coach at Gainesville High in
1948-1949.6
