SLIDE: SCHRANMMNe otiations between the NIL owners and the players
were broken off tonight in Philadelphia without
any contract agreement and no one knowing when the
two sides would get together again. After 5 days
w~~e
of meeting under federal mediation, there r still
no sign of a settlement with the two sides reportedly
as far apart as they were last week.
The chief negotiator for the owners, Tex Schramm of
the Cowboys, returned to New York tonight where he'll
report to the owners and possibly decide what to do
about the exhibition season, which is only 10 days
away. If no agreement is reached, speculation says
the owners may decide to open up their camps to the
veterans to see if the Players Ass'n can be broken.
