The Chair announced that Stonewall Democrats of Houston would be having a fundraiser dinner
with special guest Rep. Barney Frank on Saturday, December 4th in Houston.
Secretary's Report
The Secretary announced that the Texas Democratic Party was hosting a fundraising breakfast for
Sen. Ted Kennedy on Friday, December 3rd in Austin. He suggested that the Houston and Dallas
clubs be approached about hosting a brief meeting with the Senator during his stay.
The Secretary reported that he had had a meeting with Diare Hardy Garcia, Executive Director of
the Lesbian and Gay Rights Lobby in Austin and a phone conversation with Clarence Bagby,
President of the Houston Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, in the late summer of 1998 expressing
the goals of the organization and a desire to work with those organizations supportive of Gay and
Lesbian issues.
Treasurer's Report
The Treasurer reported that the organization had a balance of $185.00 from membership dues
received during the 1998 State Democratic Convention in San Antonio.
A motion was made and seconded that members be notified with the By-Laws/Ballot packet that
their membership had expired and to please remit 1999-2000 dues with their ballot. The dues will be
$10.00 for those individuals who are already members of a Stonewall Democrat organization, and
$20.00 for all other individuals (with the additional $10.00 being forwarded to the National
Federation). Motion passed.
Members would be notified that the statewide organization would work with local chapters to
purchase booth space at the 2000 State Democratic Convention in Fort Worth (Cost $350.00) to be
used by both the Houston and Dallas clubs. Motion passed.
A motion was made and seconded to create the office of Vice-Chair, an office to be held by a
member of the opposite gender of the Chair. Motion passed.
The Executive Committee accepted the nomination made by Christy Kinsler (President - Stonewall
Democrat Gay & Lesbian Club of Dallas) and submitted to Al Daniels that Jill Ireland be elected to
the position. Al Daniels agreed to notify Ms. Ireland and ask that she run for the position.
A proposed set of By-Laws, based in large part on the By-Laws of both the Stonewall Gay &
Lesbian Democratic Club of Dallas and the By-Laws of the National Federation of Stonewall
Democrats (both drafted by Michael Milliken of Dallas) was prepared, is attached hereto and made a
part hereof. A motion was made and seconded to submit these By-Laws to the membership for their
ratification. Motion passed.
