Pie - Bl ck i the Civil Rights Movement Concert Nears
The Jan. 18th program will -be co-directed by Michael Terrell,
Patricia Kessee and John Mark Tatum. All three artist's will be
assisting Eartha Kitt on her upcoming recording of the JBA's
1986 "Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement" concert. The
album, "My Way: A Musical Tribute to the late Rev. Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr.," will be recorded at the Caravan of Dreams,
Fort Worth, in March.
Mr. Terrell, a native Dallasite, obtained his Master of
Music degree from Southern Methodist University. He has been
choral music instructor in the Dallas Independent School Dis-
trict for the past 11 years and currently is director of Choral
Music-Arts Magnet High School at Booker T. Washington.
Patricia Kessee, the mother of three, also is a native
of Dallas. A graduate of Bishop College, Ms. Kessee currently
is working on her Master of English degree at Texas Women's
University. She has recorded on both Brut and Savoy record
labels.
John Mark Tatum was born in Dallas County but grew up in
Marshall, Texas. He received both his B.M. and M.M. degrees
in piano from North Texas State University and University of
Nebraska, respectively. Tatum has conducted church music work-
shops in New York, Atlanta, Houston, St. Louis, Chicago, Los
Angeles and throughout Texas.
Tickets for the 1987 King tribute are on sale now at the
JBA office, 3800 Commerce St., or through any Ticketron location.
Admission is $7 in advance and $10 at the door. For more in-
