There has been no official confirmation...but neither
there
has bmenzt been any denials so far....of reports that
a peace settlement has been reached in Tietnam.
Those reports came fra today from several, widely-
separated -- BUT UN-OFFICIAL __ sources.
-Both "Time" and "Newsweek" magazines -- in their
latest issues -- are carrying reports that the U.S.
and North Vietnam have reached a settlement.
"Time"
4UXXK says Hanoi has agreed to negotiate directly
with the
Thieu government while the South Vietnamese President
is still in power. Both magazines also say Thieu
will remain in office until he is replaced by a
caretaker government...and that a cease-fire will go
into effect during the negotiations.
Presidential Adviser Henry Kissinger conferred with
Thieu again for two hours Monday morning (Vietnam
time)...their sixth meeting in five days. Earlier,
Kissinger flew to Saxmbt Cambodia for conferences with
President Lon Nol. The meeting with Nol lasted
